Borders Shelving Units for Sale.. opinions?

Borders selling all fixtures. One "bay" with 6 shelves is selling for $100. Anyone buy one of these from a Borders yet? I put my name on the list to buy two of them.

I also saw one time they were selling desks and chairs and such. If it's a good price and you have a need for them, by all means get it.

Seems a little pricey but when you get it, fill it up and take a picture and post it back here.

Also be sure to clean it, don't think they ever did anything except dust it ever since they opened.

If I had the extra money and the means to get it home, I'd definitely get one.

Yes. Clean the shelves well. Hobos might have used them for urinals.

People don't wash their hands, also there are bathrooms in Borders stores. Which means there are fecal mater particles on the shelves. Also children were allowed in Borders stores so a myriad of other contaminants are also possible.

If there was one in my area, and I had the extra cash, I'd certainly grab one for my collection...

I worked at a Borders store in the mid-90s, and have a couple of shelves from when we moved to another location in the same shopping plaza. For what it's worth, they've lasted well over 10 years and through 6 apartment moves, and they're the best ones I own.

If you want them cheaper (or for free), wait til they close for good and the "landlord" hires a cleaning company to clean the stuff out... I picked up a couple shelves from Hollywood Video this way. Of course I don't use them anymore (no room in my current movie room), so they've just been sitting in my garage collecting car parts. I also had the choice of a couple nice counter-tops, but wasn't interested.

Of course this is YMMV, some stores sell all the fixtures or the cleaning company won't give them to you if you ask.

May be worth it if it's in good condition. The Borders around here that had all their fixtures on close-out had scuff marks, scrapes, and outright chunks missing so any idea I had about picking something up quickly went out the window.
