What is going on with the following bands? The Cure, DM, New Order, theThe

Hi. I have been seriously out of the loop on some of my favorite bands, and was wondering if anyone can tell me what they've been up to:

The Cure...has Robert released any new albums in the last couple years? What was the last one? Also has he released the remastered edition of Wish or WMS yet?

Depeche Mode....haven't kept up with them in ages. Have they released any new albums lately or was SotU the last one?

New Order....yeah yeah I know they've broken up. But what's going on with Bernard right now? I listened to Bad Luitenant and thought it was OK, nothing memorable. Has he released a follow up album or have they disbanded? Any talks of a NO reunion? Ditto Electronic?

theThe....I'm really out of the loop on this one. Love theThe's work but the last thing I heard from him was "Naked Self". Anything new from Matt Johnson since then?

Just thought I'd mention that The Cure's live set from Bestival last year has been in heavy rotation for me for the past few weeks. Listening to the set, you realize just how huge their catalog is, so many great songs. IMO, the star of the show is their rhythm section which sounds almost funky (!) on songs like Fascination Street and The Walk. Smith's voice also continues to defy time, he sounds like he did thirty years ago. The show is also very well recorded with pristine sound and non-intrusive audience noise. I think it's their best live album, which is pretty impressive at this point in their career.

New Order is part of a lineup for the Olympics closing ceremonies:

Blur
The Specials
New Order

Sweet lineup!

I don't care so much for the Bestival show. Needs more guitars and it sounds a bit wimpy at times without them.

I just got a email from theThe's website yesterday that another soundtrack album has been readied for release. I believe it's a documentary about the Apollo astronauts called "Moonbug". Good-looking packaging for the release, but the steeper price will keep me away. It will only be available via his website:

I'm pretty sure I saw posters saying New Order was touring.

Awesome. The Specials were still sounding darn good a couple years ago:

I don't know if they recorded that show over two nights or what but the set list on this is freakin' amazing. Considering they've done a few live albums over the years, I wasn't going to plunk down the money for this until I saw how many tunes were on it. Must have been a great live show.

The Smiths haven't done anything for over 20 years and they aren't going to be doing anything in the future. Morrisey has put out new records every few years and touring to audiences of Gay Mexicans and woman who would rip your hair out just to get a few inches closer to him.

The Cure usually play for about 3 hours. Their Dream tour show is still the best concert I have ever seen.

I know this was a joke, but I'm curious...what is the history behind there being such a large fanbase of, ahem..."feminine" Hispanics being into Morrissey? I've noticed this was a major trend way back in the hey day of the his early career and it seems to have continued all throughout. Did he make a record devoted to the Latino community or something?

No Latino focus records that I know of. He is a pretty good looking dude though and seems to write almost nothing but angst-y, emotional songs. His solo music isn’t nearly as upbeat as the music of the smiths though. It is one of the things I like most about The Smiths. The music is generally so upbeat and happy sounding, but the lyrics are often so morose.

The Cure should get more love from the Latin gay community. At least they wrote "Blood"

I saw Morrissey in Boston in 1997, and that was one of the only concerts I've been to that really had that pandemonium of swooning, hysterical women rushing up on stage to hug him, present him with flowers, etc.

Awesome. When I told a friend about this, his response was, "even if the Brits don't win any medals, they'll still win music."

At all the Morrissey concerts I've been to, it's been the Latino men who were going nuts for him.
