Would've been cool to have a 20th anniversary retrospective interview or something, but I'm just happy Universal is releasing this.

The 2 disc dvd also has deleted scenes. I hope their omission is simply an oversight on the part of the site.

I can pretty much take allot of movies but not this one. It's because DeNiro does such a great job on his character that it's a combo of hating him and just creeping me out. His performance in this movie makes his take on Al Capone in the Untouchables look like Howdy Doody.

Holy fuck, awesome news! How did I miss this on blu-ray.com?
I check out that site hourly. Anyway, I hope Universal doesn't
give us another half assed (or more) transfer.

Hopefully this gets cleaned up, as I seem to remember a lot of edge enhancement on the DVD. Great movie though. My parents had never seen it and borrowed it from me a few months ago and loved it. My dad never watches movies so that's saying something.

I've always enjoyed this film. DeNiro is awesome, and it's got Buford T. Pusser! I'd buy it for $10.

Walmart.com's pre-order is up for $14.86. I'm fine with paying $15 for this one.

I didn't care for Scorsese's use of splitting shots to keep two character in focus. I think this one comes off very dated and not in a timeless-y way like Taxi Driver or even Casino.

Day 1 purchase for me, though I do hope they include the deleted scenes. What's different in the original version?

Re: Cape Fear (1991) - 10/18/11

I haven't been to DVD File in ages, but they have the first review up. Sounds promising.

Video: How Does The Disc Look?

This 1080p transfer is lovely, punchy and impressive. The film-like quality of the image is amazing. Colors leap off the screen and are perfectly rendered, with no noise, smearing or oversaturation. Black levels are extraordinarily rich and deep, contrast is dead-on and detail quality is stunning for a twenty year old film. The source print is ultra clean, with blemishes, nicks and scratches all but absent. Even the minimal edge enhancement that was an issue with the movie's last DVD edition has been remedied on high-def nicely. Grain is also handled deftly, lending the movie a lived-in glow it wears proudly.

It's $14.99 on Amazon. It's also part of their buy 2, save $5 deal.

Amazon sale

One of the foreign versions (German?) comes with both films and appears to be from Universal, who doesn't lock their discs. Just a heads up.

Ever since The Simpsons awesome parody of these many years ago, this film has been hard to watch without thinking of Sideshow Bob.

What do you mean? It's from 1962, is in B&W, and features Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Polly Bergen.

That would be nice. I wonder how expensive it would be to import. I'll need to look into that after work.

Looks to be a 2 disc release, so if anything, it's on blu ray. Have no idea what kind of transfer it is though.
