Free Willy (1993) trailer gives away far too much of the plot!

I realize this muckraking is gonna to unsettle some feathers, but I really dislike this trailer! It takes away too much from Willy and Jesse's journey. Were it up to me, I would have revealed far less. I wouldn't have shown Willy being free. Furthermore, I probably would have included a question mark in the title? That adds a certain level of ambiguity to if Willy actually gets freed.

For the record, he does. But anyone who might have glimpsed at that trailer would certainly know that.

Gotta love the trailers that basically tell the whole plot of the movie and then some

the poster would be like the equivalent of a poster for the Empire Strikes Back showing Darth Vader reading a paternity suit that has Luke Skywalkers name on it.

Full agreement. Second only to Cast Away as a trailer that makes watching the whole movie redundant.

[tangent] I love the Simpsons episode when Homer and Skinner are roomates during a court case and Homer is excited to watch Free Willy and Skinner dismisses it as being a movie about a "disobediant whale"

Yeah. Like the trailers for Marley and Me and Old Yeller. Those at least had the dignity to tell us the dog dies at the end.

this is probably my favorite line that Skinner has in the entire series. Every time I crack up, every time

Ha ha. I hadn't seen Free Willy in a long time but now there's no reason to.

Wow, I never realized FREE WILLY was a mystery. I've never seen it but I always thought it was a film about a kid who befriends a captured whale and finds a way to release it back in the wild. I mean, what about "Free Willy" is not made clear by the title?

Besides, the movie was aimed at kids, who absolutely need to know what's gonna happen in a movie before they start pestering their parents to take them. Five-year-olds are only confused by teasers.

I hated this movie as a littlle kid...pretty sure I'd hate it more now. It was too stupid for me as a kid.

I didn't like that Willy died at the end. Really didn't see that coming.

And the trailer didn't show that, did it? So what the hell's everyone complaining about?

I don't know, but I haven't felt this mislead by a trailer since Million Dollar Baby

I've always hated the trailer for the Italian Job remake for this reason

(Warning: SPOILERS!)

Thanks for the warning. I'll be sure to avoid the trailer until the movie comes out.

Yeah, the poster and title Free Willy tell you pretty much everything you need to know.

Holy shit at the Italian Job one. That's the entire movie clipped down to 2 minutes.

I liked the sequel called "Catch Willy and Make Him Do Tricks".
