Go figure they double dip on season 1 and I did buy the 1st release. I was mad that the initial release of season 1 had 0 audio commentaries, especially considering it's only 6 episodes. And low and behold all 6 episodes in this new special edition have commentary tracks.
Whoah!! The MSRP for these sets are pretty high. Even if it gets a 20-30% discount release week, it's still pretty expensive for only a 6 episode season.

Glad I didn't buy the first release. However, I think I'll be fine with the standard Blu...the tin's price reportedly includes an exclusive, limited edition zombie mask designed by Greg Nicotero. Cool, but I don't need it.

I couldn't care less about the packaging, but holding back all those special features was a crappy move. Still not going to buy it.

With that, this is sort of a crappy move but also one that makes sense. Obviously re-released to promote the second season. Still sucks if you bought the first version and are a big fan of the show.

Bought the first release dirt cheap - don't care about this one. Who figures they double dip a show this quickly?

I'd be a little miffed if I actually liked the first season, which, despite being a frothing-at-the-mouth zombie fan, I really, really didn't.

Fuck. You.
This is such a bullshit move. Those are features I want, but I typically don't feel like rebuying any TV show - EVER. Plus, they really stick it up my ass by offering a limited edition set. That's the kind of useless shit I need to own, look at once and file away.

Certainly not this show. Maybe an older BD TV release (like Smallville) but gees. We were all happy not to have to wait a year for the BD (when S2 would premiere) but I guess this was their plan all along.

This is my position as well. I didn't buy it yet, but I would be pretty pissed if I did. I really do find it pretty shocking that they would be double-dipping on this so soon.

Awe. Some.
Never picked up the first release due to lack of features... well, this fixes that! Will pick this up fo' sho'
I can't see how people didn't see a double dip coming with the HUGE gap between seasons. They needed another release to help put the show back in peoples' minds. Not saying that it's right to do, but it makes sense to me business-wise.

Unreal. As much as I love the comics, i'm not so keen on this show (yet) so I can wait for a nice price drop.

I wasn't planning on buying Season 1 until Season 2 was closer to airing so I'm happy I held off. The tin looks cool but not an extra $30 cool. I'll stick with the SE.
However, I don't blame anyone who bought Season 1 for being pissed. This was obviously their plan from day 1 and they should have made it known that a relatively barebones edition would be released first followed by a special edition closer to the premiere of Season 2.

I'm glad that I held off, and will probably get this release, but I do think it was a bullshit move on AB's part...

Re: The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season: Special Edition - 10/4/11
It's only been off the air for a year. Season ends in Nov, BD comes out a few months later, S2 premieres a few months after that. I'm fairly certain all the marketing for S2 will get the show back on people's minds, not a double dip that comes out 2 weeks before the season begins. They've just been sitting on these features to fuck with fans they knew would rush out to get S1. Not everything gets a loaded edition these days, so I figured I was safe buying it.

Dammit, I had initially waited on getting this but about a couple months back I decided to pick it up. Now I wish that I had waited for it. Screw it I didn't like the show enough to double dip on it. Unless it drops in price eventually I'll pass.
