Over on bleedingcool.com they say it will have black & white versions of the episodes. That might make me double dip.

Glad I've been hemming and hawing about when to get the first season. Kinda sucks for those who already bought it that this set wasn't announced from the get go, though.

I haven't picked up the "standard" version yet, so this is a definite buy for me. I know nothing about the comics, but am a big fan of the show.

For shits sake. I already have the 1st release of Season 1 on DVD,and havent watched it yet,but I guess I'll sell that off and rebuy the Special Edition on Blu-Ray. Why does Anchor Bay have to double dip EVERYTHING?

I guess I shouldn't say i won't double dip until I see prices (list and street). I got the DVD becaue it was so much cheaper than the BD at the time.

Perhaps because people like you will buy multiple releases?

The MSRP for the Blu Ray is $59.99 and $49.98 for the DVD. And remember this is for a 6 episode season.

Yes. Release a barebones set first, then wait a few months and release the special edition that everyone wanted in the first place.
And everyone wonders why sales are down... We're all waiting out the inevitable special/ultimate editions.

This is one of those "definitely worth the double dip" moments even though its annoying that one even has to happen.
I'll wait for the pre-order price or see if I can trade in my original to Amazon for extra credit.

Double-dipping on a TV series seems particularly slimy. I thought the original release had more than a fair amount of special features, so I won't feel bad about buying it when I did rather than waiting.

Fuckers.
I guess I'll get it on blu-ray and keep my dvd set to rip episodes to my phone and whatnot.

Re: Walking Dead Season One: Special Edition - October
I have mixed feelings about this. I previously purchased the regular version about 3 weeks ago at Target when it was $9.99 and while I havn't opened it I don't think I'm going to return it. I would love to see the pilot in b&w (especially w/ commentary) but I can't see justifying paying $40 for 6 episodes.
I think at this point if Anchor Bay is going to be releasing multiple versions of the same seasons I'll be watching the series live and wait for the inevitable complete series to re-watch the episodes in a few years.

Yeah, but I'm now pretty sure we saw such massive discounts so soon after the set's release because retailers were clearing shelves for the impending re-release. I seriously doubt we will see such a massive discount on the new set anytime soon.

It's possible, but this isn't till October so that would be planning really far in advance.

I bet there is an advertisement inside the packaging for the 75th version of Evil Dead and the 45th of Evil Dead 2. With that said I never picked up the original release so I will be getting this. Dick move on Anchor Bay's part though.
