Hanna -- 9/6/11

Been looking at all online DVD sites daily waiting for this news. My favorite movie of 2011 so far. And the Chemical Brothers soundtrack is sublime!

Day One. My favorite film of the year thus far.

Also, a limited edition steelbook will be available in the UK on August 29th. Amazon UK Link.

The DVD would be region locked with numbers, not letters.

Re: Hanna -- 9/6/11

Cool features:

The Blu-ray will have 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements include: Feature Commentary with Director Joe Wright; Deleted Scenes and Alternate Ending; and Anatomy of a Scene: The Escape From Camp G: This feature breaks down the complexities of Hanna's daring escape, from getting the actors prepped to the special effects it took to make this action-packed sequence.

Blu-ray exclusives will include: Adapt or Die: This featurette reveals the intense training and acting process Saoirse Ronan went through to become Hanna; Central Intelligence Allegory: The filmmakers and cast reveal their boldly original approach to this adventure thriller; Chemical Reaction: A look at The Chemical Brothers' creative process of writing and scoring all of the music in the film, as the musicians themselves talk about their unique approach to the task of composition; The Wide World of Hanna: Join the filmmakers as they travel from icy Finland to scorching Morocco and then from empty deserts to post-punk Berlin, finding the perfect locations for HANNA; and a Hanna Promo.

Apparently this disc is. They did list the retail version as region free.

Bah humbug. Hopefully someone else takes the plunge and that turns out to be inaccurate.

Re: Hanna -- 9/6/11

Received shipping notice from Amazon UK this morning for the steelbook.

Here's a video showcasing the design of the packaging (I think it's pretty cool that Universal has stopped printing the rating logos on the actual packaging itself, instead plopping them on the cardboard wrap):

http://youtu.be/GuX7mnhotFM

Odd, it's not embedding the video.

I'm betting so, though I don't have any hard proof of that (yet). Universal's UK Blu-rays are region-free probably 99% of the time (I personally own Psycho, Hot Fuzz, and Twelve Monkeys), and I doubt they'd veer from that with this release.

Re: Hanna -- 9/6/11

I can't really remember being excited enough about a DVD to film my opening the package or wanting to watch someone else open the package. Not sure of the reasoning but if it has views I guess there are enough people who want to watch someone else open a DVD package

Whenever there's a doubt, I like to wait for confirmation. That said, Amazon's information tends to be wrong more often than right.

LOVE this film...praying BB or Target will have it for $19.99 so Amazon will match, but this own is a day 1 purchase no matter what. Even with the price currently at $24.99 regular price, I would guess it will either be $22.99 or $19.99. That's because BB shows it at $24.99 now and usually they show a higher price until the item is listed at their sale price. So, it should go lower. I've seen them list the sale price as early as a week before release, even before the ads leak out.

I loved this film so much, I've been checking their site every day.

I'll be really surprised if the Blu-ray's been locked, but the DVD will almost assuredly be Region 2 and PAL-encoded. I'll post a full review whenever it comes in, which will probably be sometime next week.

It's going to be $19.99 at Best Buy, per the BB.com website!

Re: Hanna -- 9/6/11

Hanna has been one of my favorite movies so far. I see it staying in my Top 10 for 2011.

On the Blu-ray/DVD: Does anyone know if the Special Edition steel case will be available in the United States? I know the UK edition blu-ray Special Edition is region free.

Re: Hanna -- 9/6/11

I am so paranoid that they will release some super duper "Saoirse Ronan Boomstick Edition" with picture in picture commentary from the stars and more even extras that i may hold off buying. Shame because this is exactly the kind of movie i would blind buy. Does Universal usually pull quintuple dips or they are known to put out what they are going to put out, once?

Unless it was put out by Criterion after the fact (i.e. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) or a Combo Pack re-release, I can't recall a Universal double-dip on Blu-ray with an improved transfer or new bonus material.

Which actually may be the most positive thing to say about Universal considering they're the most inconsistent major studio putting out titles in the format. Lossy audio, inferior HD transfers when the titles on HD-DVD looked better, lack of porting of bonus material from DVD/HD-DVD or "editing" the material to be that of U-Control content, making all bonus material to be standard definition and jamming it onto one disc. Sigh.

Their menus also look like shit.

Fuck them.
