RIP character actor Roberts Blossom
from twitch
He was a patient who died of malpractice in hospital in 1971. Then in 1972, he was a military officer who knew a young soldier who came unstuck in time. In 1974 he dug women up from the grave, or killed them fresh, so he could wear their skins. Also, in 1974 he birthed an enigma by the name of Gatsby. That same year he also surfaced as a Bible Belt preacher, full of fire, brimstone, and double-standards.
By the time 1977 rolled around, he was standing on a mountain top, waiting for extraterrestrials to swing by and give him a lift to the Great Unknown. sadly, all he got were Army helicopters. In 1979 he was stuck on Alcatraz, imprisoned, but happy to be able to just paint the days away. As his life went on, he had a daughter who had a near-death experience and came through it with the power to heal the sick, he wreaked havoc by selling a haunted car to horny teenager, he owned en English sheep dog, has been a grandpa awaiting a Ghost Train, helped a young boy beset by villainous burglars, been a judge. and a doctor in an old western town.
He was none of these things. he was all of these things. With a filmography that includes The Hospital, Deranged, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, the often overlooked gem Resurrection, and Home Alone. Character actor Robert Blossom helped in creating some of the most beloved and memorable moments in American cinema.
Born in 1924, Blossom started acting in the 50's, after an original plan to become a therapist. His first role of note was in a television adaption of Our Town. Later, moving into features as well, he is a familiar face to almost any moviegoer. Sadly, Mr. Blossom has shuffled off this mortal coil , July 8, 2011. Happily, we have a wonderful and varied filmography to remember him by, and remember him we will.
This applause is for you Mr. Blossom.
I mainly knew him as Old Man Marley in Home Alone

"My asshole brother bought her back in September '57. That's when you got your new model year, in September. Brand-new, she was. She had the smell of a brand-new car. That's just about the finest smell in the world, except maybe for pussy."

Loved this guy!
Saw him in a production of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, when I was a kid, and I was so excited to see him in person, because I remembered him from Escape from Alcatraz.
He was one of the greats! R.I.P.
