Donnie Yen's latest Hong Kong flick. Looks entertaining enough. Comes out in China on July 28th, so I'm sure it'll be awhile before we get a chance to see it. Random note, but I can't believe Yen is almost 50! He hasn't aged in 20 years, looks the same as he did in Iron Monkey.

BTW, I wasn't aware that this movie is the director Peter Chan's remake of the Shaw Brothers film "One Armed Swordsman". And the North American rights were purchased by the Weinstein Company

Saw this last weekend. By far the most satisfying Chinese-made film I've seen this year. I loved how by setting it in 1917 we could get a nice mix of "traditional" martial arts film mixed with 20th century detective stories. Some parts of the film were a bit hokey, but I think that has more to do with my taste or opinion than the quality of the film.
For a film that played at Cannes, I was extremely annoyed that were seemed to be a major subtitle error. A few times during the movie, the subtitle appeared as "it is also know as 'fragrant wine'" when it should not have. I don't think I missed any major plot points, but still...

I thought that was Shaw Brothers cutie Hui Ying Hung---looked up the cast and it is! Wang Yu is in there too? Looking forward to this one.

Just finished the HK bluray last night (very nice A/V Quality). Overall I thought it was good. The script was interesting and the direction/cinematography were both very good. I'm not sure how much replay value it would have more me though, as there were only 3 proper fight sequences (with the end fight being a bit of a let down). The fight scenes are mostly good though, with Donnie becoming one my favorite choreographers with his recent work.

Just got the HK bluray of this, and this movie rocked!!
Especially if you're an old-school Shaw Brothers fan, the plot has serious echoes of Avenging Eagle, One-Armed Swordsman (and some Clan of the White Lotus at the end)---and it's got Hui Ying Hung and Jimmy Wang Yu in some awesome fighting roles! On top of that, it's just a really good, well-acted movie, well shot movie, IMO. Could have used a few more fight scenes in the first two thirds, but a really enjoyable movie overall, I thought.

DDDhouse had it on sale a couple weeks ago, and I added it to my order of Shaw Brothers movies. I think the price is back up a bit now. Although it looks like the 14 Blades blu is under $9 there right now---haven't seen the movie, but I may have to pick it up at that price.
I'm not a real video or audiophile, but I thought the Wu Xia blu ray looked and sounded fantastic.

Finally got to see this courtesy of Netflix. Solid addition to Donnie Yen's filmography. An interesting enough story and impressive action choreography. Worth a watch if you're a fan of his.

Is the Netflix version uncut or the Weinstein cut of the movie?

Does the Blu-Ray version have the original mono track?
Anyway, a Donnie Yen movie always means good fight sequences, if nothing else.
I believe it's the Weinstein cut, I don't think the original version ever got released in the US.
