Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

We have our first Casting Hire for season 2!

Slight spoiler (talks about character that has not appeared in Season 1.

Margery Tyrell:

http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/06/23/ga...rones-casting/

Former Tudor's star Natalie Dormer to play Margery Tyrell

HBO’s Game of Thrones has made its first casting hire for season 2:

Natalie Dormer, who memorably played the seductive and doomed Anne Boleyn on Showtime’s The Tudors, has been added to the fantasy drama’s regular cast.

Dormer will play Margaery Tyrell, a (minor spoiler alert) beautiful and shrewd young woman from the influential House Tyrell. She’s pledged to marry the late King Robert’s brother, Renly Baratheon, as part of House Tyrell’s support for his bid to seize the Iron Throne from King Joffrey.

In addition to The Tudors, Dormer is also appearing in the upcoming Captain America.

I really liked Dormer as Anne Boleyn in the Tudors. I would have assumed that HBO would have hired a unknown actress fo this role.

A little surprised they went with someone that old for the part, she'll be 30 when the show airs next year. It could look awkward if they make it to book 4

Sean Bean was nearly 20 years older than Ned was in the books.

They'll just age up Margaery and they can make Dormer look younger.

And yeah wishbone that face is just stupid looking. She can't really think that looks good. Maybe she just really likes Dr Evil.

Would it be possible to not talk about seasons 3 and beyond in this thread? Or is that asking too much? Because what this implies goes beyond the pre-production and production news and tells us who will not be dying in season 2.

I ask this not for me because I'll be done with the 5 books long before season 2 airs (and before winter comes) but for others that may wander into this thread based on the title and get hit with actual events from the story, especially those beyond the season at hand.

Did they tell her that her character eats a live unicorn in book 5?

Probably makes sense to eat the unicorn in reverse and save the horn for last -- it makes for an excellent toothpick.

It's relevant to the casting decisions. If people don't want to know how long a characters will live they should probably just stay away from this thread.

Yeah, way too old for the part. But then I guess 20 and 30 somethings play teenagers all the time.

And it didn't take long for spoiler debate to infect this thread as well. Sigh.

You're welcome. Seriously, though, it's SEASON 2... let's not talk about whether these casting choices affect SEASON 4.

If only there was a mechanism for that!

Guys, I took a relatively minor thing and showed how innocent a comment can reveal major plot points. No it wasn't a big spoiler, but anyone with half a brain can infer what it means for season 2.

Just trying to head it off (pun intended) before something major was just casually mentioned.

You'd better hurry because winter is etc.

Anyway, here's a picture of her as a blond, courtesy of EW:

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

A little casting nugget by the actor that plays Renly, apparently he dropped by a fan GoT finale party at a pub in London:

http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php...5#entry2540965
was very nice of Gethin to show up and it was interesting to hear what he thought about the show, although I'm now very curious who has been cast as Brienne (Gethin thinks we'll all be happy with the person who has been chosen)
.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

So who needs to be cast?

Stannis
Davos
Melisandre
Jaqen H'ghar
Brienne
Jojen and Meera Reed
Balon and Asha Greyjoy
Mance Ryder
Ygritte
Edmure Tully

Do they include someone like Vago Heart or give the major thing he does to someone else?
