This week starts my busy movie theater trek for the summer...
June 17th - Green Lantern in 3D
if is good enough I will see it with another friend in 3D
June 24th - Cars 2
June 29th (Weds) - Transformer 3 (may have to wait until my 16 year comes back from Summer Camp)
July 8th - NOTHING (Unless I see T3 again)
July 15th - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
July 22nd - Captain America: The First Avenger
July 29th - Cowboys & Aliens (Love the title on this one, whole audience laughed when the preview showed the title)
Aug 5th - Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Movie scares me a bit, in a good way)
Aug 12th - Week off
Aug 19th - Conan the Barbarian (2011)
You might call me just a "Summer Pop Corn Movie" fan, well it is true. I truly love good old Summer Blockbusters. Great way to have fun with family/friends and to cool down on those hot summer days/nights.
See you at the movies...

While I don't go to the theaters often, I agree; when I go the theater I want to see something big and loud and visually impressive. Doesn't have to be a blockbuster, but I don't need to watch a Haunting Drama or a generic comedy on the big screen. I'm interested in Green Lantern, Cars 2, T3, Cowboys and Aliens. I don't like the Marvel universe/characters enough to see Cap, and I got out of Harry Potter a little while ago.
That said, realistically, I'll probably see at most one of those at the fullprice theater, maybe one more at the 1.50, the rest on DVD a year down the road.

I'd rank the summer so far:
X-Men First Class
Super 8
Pirates 4
Fast Five
*Forgot I saw Pirates. I also saw The Tree of Life but I'm not putting that into the "blockbuster" category.
X-Men First Class
Super 8

For me, there's also been Fast Five, Thor, X-Men, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Hangover 2 as movies i've seen this summer already, and i'll probably try to catch Super 8 sometime. It's been a good summer for me so far, with only Hangover 2 being a disappointment. And that's with me having missed Pirates and Bridesmaids (both of which i'll catch at the dollar theater or on Blu-ray)

Harry Potter, Cowboys And Aliens for sure and maybe Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. The rest don't do it for me. Saw Super 8 and was let down.

I'm only planning on seeing TRANSFORMERS 3 in 3-D and COWBOYS AND ALIENS (in 2-D). I'll be spending most of July watching stuff at home for the Sci-fi/Fantasy Challenge over on DVD Talk and most of August watching stuff for the Animation Challenge.

The only must-sees in the BIG! HUGE! BLOCKBUSTER! genre are Green Lantern, Cars 2 (I've never missed a Pixar film in theaters), Captain America, and Harry Potter. Cowboys vs. Aliens will make that list if the reviews are strong enough. Same with Conan, although it seems everybody's sharpening their knives for that one.
After that absolute shitfest that was TF2, four grown men and a strong dog couldn't drag me into the theaters for TF3.

True.
I did go see Thor and XMEN 1st Class, wanted to see Super 8 but did not get around to it.
This week starts a 7 out of 8 weeks of movies. If Super 8 is still in the theater, then I might see that on July 8th, my off week.

I've got movies once a week during the summer, including delayed releases like Tree of Life and Bridesmaids. The big summer release here (being released on July 4 in HK) is Peter Chan's Dragon (武俠). It seemed to have gotten positive coverage at Cannes, so I'm looking forward to it.

Will look it up to see when it is coming to my area.

Looking at what I've seen up to this point:
If it wasn't intended or shot in 3D, I'll pay for the 2D thank you very much.
This summer has also been very feasible to see a movie every week especially due to Regal's Value Days here in Vegas. Three Regal theaters here run $5 movie tickets all day on Tuesdays whereas the rest will run $5 matinees for all showings prior to 12pm. Not a bad deal at all.
And yes, Tuesdays are a fucking nightmare at those specific three theaters due to the discounted ticket prices. Hmmm, I wonder if movie theaters had prices like that at all times. Hmmm, maybe the movie industry wouldn't be failing right now...
- Fast Five
- Thor (in 2D)
- Bridesmaids
- The Hangover Part II
- X-Men: First Class
- Super 8 (in IMAX)
- Green Lantern (in 2D)
- Bad Teacher
- Cars 2 (in 2D, especially after being burned by Pixar's last two 3D efforts)
- Transformers (in IMAX 3D)
- Horrible Bosses
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows II (in 2D)
- Captain America: The First Avenger (in 2D)
- Friends with Benefits
- Cowboys and Aliens
- Crazy, Stupid, Love
- Attack the Block
- The Change-Up
- 30 Minutes or Less
- Final Destination 5 (in 3D)
- Fright Night (in 3D)
- Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

I paid ¥40 to see Fast Five during a matinee. I paid a ridiculous ¥120 to see Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D.
(¥40 = $6.17)
