Primus - Green Naugahyde (9/13/11)
Primus will return with their first album in 12 years on September 13th via ATO Records and Prawn Songs. Titled Green Naugahyde, the record was produced and engineered by Les Claypool in his personal studio, Rancho Relaxo, in Northern California, and features Claypool, long-time guitarist Larry LaLonde, and drummer Jay Lane. Lane was in an early lineup of the band, and was also in Sausage, a 1994 reunion of the 1988 Primus lineup. He rejoined Primus last year after departing Furthur.
According to an issued press release, Green Naugahyde expands on Primus’ “incomparable sound and also sees them bringing it into the next millennium. It is a cerebral and complex album that, like all of the band’s output, is teeming with the band’s signature blend of whimsy and underlying darkness.”
Says Claypool, “If I were to look at all of our records, it seems like this is reminiscent of the early stuff. Obviously, with Jay there’s a newness to it, but because he left the band right before we recorded our first record, his approach has an eerie harkening to the old Frizzle Fry days.”
Ahead of the release, Primus will spend much of the summer on the road, with appearances at the Bonnaroo and Kanrocksas music festivals included. The band also plans to launch an extensive fall tour in support of the album, but dates are still forthcoming.

Awesome new song...
After hearing it... had I not already ordered my ticket this afternoon to see them live, I would be doing it this very minute.

I got into Primus pretty late (Antipop & Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People), but have discovered most of their back catalog in the last few years. The new track is awesome. I can't wait for the album.

New track sounds GREAT. Much better than anything off Anti-Pop, as far as I can recall. I'm excited for the new CD, and I still need to get my tix for the Wiltern show.

Yep, it's awesome. I mean, really awesome. I need to listen to it at least 10-15 times to let it fully sink in, but it's far better than anything post-Punch Bowl.

I feel I should also mention I'm def buying a physical copy the day it comes out. No way I could stiff Primus, as much as they suck...

Sounds pretty good, I will pick up the album; and I've already picked up two 2nd row seats in Philly.
Looks like it is going to be an Evening with Primus and no opening act.
W00t!

Yup, not only an evening with Primus, but they'll be playing 2 full sets! Odds are one will be GN in its entirety! I can't wait for the NY show.

Yeah, it's very solid. As with all Primus releases, there are 2 or 3 tracks that don't do anything for me, but the rest are very good.

Eyes of the squirrel is hard as hell. I've been mainly stuck on that but I'm very happy with the album.
Help with the lyrics:
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
barry swing his bat
piano playing cats
big mouth trucking whores
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
drama thats for free
on reality tv
wheres that tuna casserole
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
as we change our minds
at least half a dozen times
i would lead the revolution (?)
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
the oils constant flow
through the gulf of mexico
anyone for bad shrimp
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
the idiots start to fester
where he shot that child molester
some call him hero some call the cops (?)
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
another arrogant ass
says hes got an n word pass
what the hells an n word pass
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
brad and angelie
expand their family
whos gonna be the next octomom
the eyes of the squirrel are watching
obama wave his pecker
at the infrastructure wreckers
say what you gonna do about that gun control
the eyes of the squirrel are watching

Re: Primus - Green Naugahyde (9/13/11)
Seems this thread died, but I just spent the weekend listening to this record. Agreed, its the best Primus since Punchbowl. New/old drummer is a beast and Les is doing the type of lyrical work that made me love the earlier stuff.
"the eyes of the squirrel are watching
another arrogant ass
says hes got an n word pass
what the hells an n word pass"
It's funny in a Mr. Know-it-all sort of way.
Also, listening to Last Salmon Man...does anyone think the 'story' of the song is somewhat like Season 6 of Deadliest Catch?
"Jimmy Mac runs the trawler of his father
Who got it passed down from his Pa
Three closed seasons, and a banknote on his shoulder
That Jimmy's hidin' from the law
Jimmy watched, as the bulk of the fleet
Sold their boats and moved away
But after the stroke, he promised to his father
He'd do his best to stay"
