Jean Luc Godard's 'Film Socialisme'
No thread or discussion for French New Wave legend Jean Luc Godard's Film Socialisme? It is ripe for discussion in its glorious abstractness and has divided critics (check ratings on IMBD and Rotten Tomatoes).
Let me begin with my positive review on my blog, the Independent Ethos:

how about we put a trailer and a synopsis for those of us...not in the know?

The first movement, Des choses comme ça ("Such things") is set on a cruise ship, featuring multi-lingual conversations among a medley collection of passengers. Characters include an aging war criminal, a former United Nations official and a Russian detective.
The second movement, Notre Europe ("Our Europe"), involves a pair of children, a girl and her younger brother, summoning their parents to appear before the "tribunal of their childhood", demanding serious answers on the themes of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
The final movement, Nos humanités ("Our humanities") visits six legendary sites: Egypt, Palestine, Odessa, Hellas, Naples, and Barcelona.

Thanks, Solid Snake. BTW, the trailer is the film in Fast Forward mode, so, for those concerned about such things: be warned. Still, I do not think it detracts from the hour-and-a-half long experience that is Film Socialisme.

"It's upsetting that I spent 90 minutes of my life wrestling with this movie to get absolutely nothing out of it, except a desire to take Godard's camera away and put him in a nursing home."

lol. Yeah, I read that quote on RT. Like I said in my review, what you get out of it depends on what you bring into it ... as good art should work. If you want someone to tell you what "happens" ask mommy or daddy to read you a bedtime story.

I'll see anything Godard puts out. Athough it's becoming more and more difficult to say that.

Let me say, I tried to refrain from analyzing in my review, but I think he is probably more disillusioned than you, and it shows in this movie. It will be a sad coda to the vibrant New Wave when we lose him too.

Judging by the title, this looks like another sad, desperate, money hungry attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator of the American movie-going audience.

Trailer is gone. I don't know if I'd check this out. His French New Wave are some of my favorite films but every director goes through peaks and valleys.

Here it is again...

from what it looks like is something akin to a pretentious young filmmaker believing they're making a statement...but lacking any quality of filmmaking. Which is sad to see if this is what Godard is up to now.

I can't say it any better than this.

I tried really hard to make a connection with this film, but I just couldn't break through.
