Hi all,
I have an old 19" Magnavox TV in my dorm room on TV stand and next to it is a 4.4 cubic foot refridgerator. The TV had some problems with magnetic interference from some ill placed speakers last year but once we moved the speakers it mostly went away. Now, I am aware that obviously fridges are magnetic and have motors in them so they may give off a slight magnetic field. The compressor on the fridge is at almost ground level while the tv is about 4 feet off the ground or so and another 4 or 5 inches away from the fridge. Would this cause any interference with the TV? The picture looks fine to me, but I just want to make sure it's ok to have them this close. Thanks for any input.

I'm no expert but 4-5 feet would seem like it would be fine.

It's possible that it could be the fridge, but I know some people who live in the dorms at my school and use the fridge as the TV stand without any problems.

Only thing I would recommend it to have the fridge plugged into a separate circuit or at least plu the TV into a surge suppressor to protect it from not only your fridge but everyone else's that is sharing your circuit.

I've got my fridge about the same distance from my TV and I have never had any problems with it. If you can't see any magnetic distortion then it should be fine.

It may be wiring inside the wall behind the TV causing the problem.
