Aliens: Colonial Marines (Gearbox, Sega) - Spring 2012

I passed on AvP, but with Gearbox behind this I'm in 110%.

“It'll be dark soon, and they mostly come at night...mostly.” LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (June 1, 2011) –SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that the highly-anticipated first-person shooter, Aliens: Colonial Marines™, will be launching in spring 2012 on PC, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. In partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising and developed by critically acclaimed studio Gearbox Software, Aliens: Colonial Marines will bring new levels of bone-chilling suspense and adrenaline-filled action to the renowned franchise. The game pits players against the universe’s ultimate alien killing machines, the Xenomorphs, in claustrophobic environments guaranteed to produce blood curdling thrills that the movie is renowned for. A first look of the game is presented in the South Hall at SEGA’s booth # 2023, at next week’s E3 in Los Angeles.

“To Gearbox Software and its peers throughout the industry, Aliens is one of the most influential science fiction properties of all time,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “Aliens: Colonial Marines, designed as an interactive successor to the landmark films from 20th Century Fox and Directors Ridley Scott and James Cameron, is a dream project to which our studio is deeply committed and passionate about.”

“Aliens: Colonial Marines will be THE definitive Aliens gaming experience,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA of America. “Gearbox Software are doing a brilliant job translating the thrill and horror that Aliens stands for into an action-packed shooter experience with co-operative gameplay at its core.”

Aliens: Colonial Marines begins with an ostensibly abandoned ship, the U.S.S. Sulaco, recovered in orbit around LV-426. Players lead a group of highly trained United States Colonial Marines as they board the deserted craft to uncover the fate of the crew. They will have to fight to survive unspeakable horrors and their own anxieties as they chase down the truth behind a galaxy-spanning deception that places humanity at the mercy of the most murderous and deadly species in the universe. Aliens: Colonial Marines features authentic environments, such as the surface of LV-426 and Hadley’s Hope, weapons inspired by the film series and is designed to provide an exhilarating and engaging new chapter in the Aliens universe.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will be available spring 2012 on PlayStation®3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game is also on display in the South Hall at SEGA’s booth # 2032, at next week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles
Will have more to talk about next week after E3.

It's really going to have to be something special to get me to come back into the Aliens fold.

So the Sulaco crashed somewhere and the Marines go in to investigate?

It's probably still in orbit over LV-426.

Please god, let this game be good. I've been burnt by so many shitty aliens games that its hard to feel to confident in this one.

My question is how do they go to Hadley's Hope after it was nuked, and why did they say that the humans on board were Ripley and Burke? Not too sure of what the timeline is on this.

They said "civvies", which was true. Everyone else was a marine.

"Hudson, sir, he's Hicks."

Hicks was a Marine played by Michael Biehn ()

Burke was a civilian employed by Weyland.

I'd have to rewatch the end of Aliens how Ripley defined the passengers. It's certainly possible Rebecca (Newt) was registered as Burke for that. Or they're not talking about the escape craft, but the outbound manifest.

Burke was played by Paul "The Paul Reiser Show" Reiser.

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines (Gearbox, Sega) - Spring 2012

Just checked the movie, they don't specifically show how the passengers are registered.

The video for the game is talking about finding the synthetic's (Bishop's) legs and the atmospheric processor was destroyed, so they're at LV-426 on the Sulaco and clearly not working with all the data.

It's possible this is before the events of Alien 3 when the fate of Ripley and Hicks would be known by Weyland.

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines (Gearbox, Sega) - Spring 2012

I'm watching the start of Alien 3 now. It appears they stayed on Sulaco until the compromise of the cryotubes and were then jettisoned over Fury 161. So I'm not sure how LV-426 and Sulaco relate after the events of Aliens...

Newt is identified in this movie as an unidentified female and not as Burke, Carter J.

Then again, if they're discounting Alien 3, there's no proof Sulaco ever left LV-426's orbit or if Ripley, et al were even officially on it.

If you believe Michael Bishop (Lance Henriksen) is really human and not a clone, then it has to be within a few years since the Bishop android was modeled after him.

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines (Gearbox, Sega) - Spring 2012

OK, I just heard the trailer wrong. Thought it was saying that the only ones that made it back to the cryotubes were Ripley and Burke.

Still doesnt seem like there would be anything left of Hadley's Hope to go back to after the blast.
