Anyone remember this line? When Spider-man 2099 and Doom 2099 came out I bought the first issues, then polybagged them thinking they might be valuable, but not nearly as valuable as Youngblood #1 and Brigade #1 would be.
Anyways, I never bought the second issues, and it was only until recently that I realized what I missed out on. I found a bunch of 2099 back issues in the quarter bin at my local comic shop and was impressed.
SPIDER-MAN 2099
Man, this comic was so awesome that it made me wish they had canceled Amazing Spider-man during the clone saga, and made this the "official" Spider-man comic. In fact, I bet replacing Peter Parker with Miguel O'Hara would have been more well received than Ben Reilly.
DOOM 2099
Another great comic. It was pretty cool seeing Doom given the anti-hero treatment, but it worked because he wasn't actually a good guy, just displaced in a worse world, with no heroes, so he ended up looking kind of good.
The tone was more serious here than in Spider-man 2099, and had alot of interesting elements. Doom's Zefiro tribe, questions about whether or not he was the real Doom, corporate warfare, etc.
I wish I had been buying these issues when they first came out instead of wasting my allowance on Brigade #1, Team Youngblood #1, etc.
