Penn and Teller: Secrets of the Universe
Penn and Teller have ended their Showtime hit "Bullshit!" and are now moving to Discovery channel with a new show called Secrets of the Universe.
It's a six-part series starring Penn Jillette and Teller. Each episode will contain ten stories, one of which will be false. The show will air on the Discovery Channel this autumn and is filmed in front of a live audience. It premieres in the Fall.

I'm disappointed that Bullshit ended, loved that show, but I'll watch this.

Someone posted about this late last year. The only downside I see to this is that they won't be able to be as edgy as they were on Showtime.

The premise sounds like that show they rerun on SyFy/Chiller that Will Riker hosts.

Just like Bullshit - no sale. I'm waiting for more scripted work like Penn and Teller Get Killed or The Invisable Thread.
Nothing against their reality stuff but their scripted work is epic and we need more of it.

Re: Penn and Teller: Secrets of the Universe
I was actually just about to post that this sounds exactly like Beyond Belief, Fact or Fiction, but saw someone else already brought it up as that "Will Riker" show. Ten stories in an hour episode though? That sounds a bit much to try to shove into each episode, and it sounds like these are stories, yet the title makes it sound like it's a science/astronomy angle. By stories, I mean like Beyond Belief, murder mysteries and stuff like that, decidedly human stuff. I thoroughly like Penn Jillette, even though I felt Bullshit sucked badly the last few seasons, so I will tune in.

A bit of news, the show has been renamed "Penn and Teller: Tell a Lie".
The series started filming last month and is still set to debut in the fall on Discovery.

I had no idea BS had stopped production...this might explain why SHOWTIME doesn't offer any past season On Demand. I don't know if I like the gist of this new show...I'm much rather see them do some myth or conspiracy-busting. Or maybe a reality show about their stage act...of course, that might give away too many secrets - but it would make for a fun show.
The coolest thing about Penn & Teller (if you're ever lucky enough to see them in Vegas...anyone know if they're still at the Rio?) is that they come out and greet the audience after the show...not just a quick "hi, how are you", but they actually hang out in the lobby for a half hour or so and take time to say hi to EVERYONE. Class acts!

They need to just bring Fool Us to the US with American magicians involved. That series was some of my favorite television of this year and I'd love to see more.

Re: Penn and Teller: Secrets of the Universe
So I'm searching for this show on TiVo and I don't find Secrets of the Universe, but I do find Penn & Teller Tell a Lie on DSC at 10pm. Is this the same show? Was it renamed or just a TiVo data anomaly?
Edit: whoops, should have looked further back. Also, it's listed as a game show?! (now there's a valid use of the interrobang!)

I'm usually a big fan of P&T, but I was kind of underwhelmed with this. I thought the
story was the obvious lie. The whole footage looked pretty staged and not realistic at all.
I thought the steering an airplane with it doors concept was fairly interesting.
The bad thing is that this show follows Mythbusters which is really good at presenting outrageous scenarios in an interesting manner. Something about the setups in this show just felt lacking.

Also thought it was kinda lame that they did a bit regarding swearing to help cope with pain. Mythbusters already did that, and it's the lead-in for this show.

I agree, the fake was obvious. I love the duo and some of the facts were interesting, but overall it was "eh". I'll continue watching though.
I have to say that one of the things I loved about Bullshit! was P&T's uncensored brand of humor. It wasn't just a great show but a hilarious one too. This neutered version of their humor is cheesy and eye roll inducing. Damn you Discovery!
