Synopsis:

When the Anthropology class assembles for their final exam, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) notices a twinge, which quickly escalates into full-blown labor. As Jeff (Joel Mchale) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) argue about how best to help, Chang (Ken Jeong) is anxious to claim this "early" labor as clear evidence that it's a "Chang Baby!" Meanwhile, Greendale is hosting a World Food Festival in the parking lot and a riot ensues - Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) is caught in the crossfire.

Can't wait. It sucks that they're not showing them both on the same night.

Britta: "Guys, I got it. I'm in the zone."

My TV cut out right as Britta pulled the baby out. Did anyone say anything between that time and the time Abed and Troy did their handshake?

The Dean was great in this episode.

The Dean: "Deal."

Glad to see them reference that!

Is it me, or is Annie looking more "chestier" than usual??

Fixed :) Great line.

I also liked the callback to the never before seen St. Patrick's Day adventure.

I don't remember Abed delivering a baby, which episode did that happen in?

It was at the very beginning of the season. One of the episodes with Betty White.

What? I don't think most people noticed it. Here's a link to all of it on Youtube, if anybody is interested.

Yeah, I love the show has characters talk about the off-screen adventures of the study group. It makes the interactions between the characters much more authentic and lets them do jokes that they otherwise wouldn't be able to do, since perhaps the idea wouldn't sustain an entire episode.

You're only allowed to post here if you've read every single post in every single thread since the first episode. How could you not know this? Now go get caught up and and meet us back here next week.

The show has become incredibly meta, but actually this episode felt a little more normal than most of the season.

I'm new to this show in the last 6-7 episodes and I don't get any of the callbacks, but I'm still loving the show. That said, this episode was a lot weaker than all the others I've seen.

I need to find some time to go back and watch season 1 and the parts of 2 I've missed.

Naw, the LeVar Burton episode was a total classic. This one was decent but definitely one of the weaker ones.

Yeah, because they both got the part they wanted and didn't have to argue over who was who.

Enjoyed this one. As for the Abed delivering a baby joke, I watched that YouTube clip and that's one of the two episodes I haven't seen this season. For whatever reason, there were two that expired almost immediately on Hulu before I could watch them. Watching the clip now, clearly that's Abed's storyline for the entire episode and it's impossible to miss; every shot is set up to make it the center of the action and the foreground dialogue is innocuous.

Yeah, it's impossible to miss watching just the clip titled "Abed Delivers a Child." Watching the actual episode, many people did miss it, since they don't tend to focus on the background, despite the fact that it's framed to be seen prominently. Sure you'd notice Abed doing that random stuff, but you would not necessarily piece it all together or even focus directly on it.

The part where Britta first checked on the birth, and it's just her head peering into the abyss, was that a parody of something?

The music during that shot seemed to me to sound like the end of 2001 where astronaut Dave Bowman encounters the monolith and the "laser light show" begins.

Could be but I wa thinking more this decade or recent and the sound of when Frodo goes into the "ring zone" when he first puts on the ring.

Watched the ep about an hour ago and remember the closed captioning mentioning "2001", so pretty sure it was an homage to that film.

I agree. Now this would NOT work on something with a laugh track like How I Met Your Mother. They do similar stunts but are MUCH less veiled than Community's callback references.

These recent episodes are becoming so filled with references to other episodes that I worry it's entering the Arrested Development zone.

I'll keep watching, though, cause I'm that kind of nerd.

Arrested Development used it because they were serial and for continuity, not your typical sitcom with just marginal/situational continuity.
