The lighting in this episode was enormously improved and much more believable. I wonder if they changed DP's, or if a new Director came in and pulled a Bale-like tantrum about how absurd the lighting scheme had been before.

Renewed for a 10 episode 2nd season today. Production will begin this summer for a 2012 airdate.

I'm a little surprised. Didn't think this would catch on with Showtime viewers.

It's on par with The Tudors in terms of general subject matter and boasts a better pedigree with Neil Jordan and Jeremy Irons so why wouldn't it catch on?
