KK Downing "retires" from Judas Priest

I am guessing that it must be health related since this was so abrupt and they are getting ready for the final world tour. KK will be missed \m/

Yeah, I can't imagine any reason why he'd leave the band so close to their final tour if it weren't health related. If it were anything else and Glenn & Rob couldn't work out their differences with K.K. that would be unforgivable under these circumstances.
I'm sure we'll find out more soon.

Bummer
I'm glad I caught Priest on the 30th Anniversary British Steel tour, and I'm sure they'll be fine live without KK, but he is essential to the band.
It'd be like watching Maiden without part of Steve Harris and most of Dave Murray.
If it is indeed for health reasons, I hope he has a speedy recovery.

K.K. Downing press release
Dear friends,
It is with much regret that I will not be with you this summer. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your concerns about my health. Please rest assured that I am O.K.
There has been an ongoing breakdown in working relationship between myself, elements of the band, and the band's management for some time.
Therefore I have decided to step down rather than to tour with negative sentiments as I feel that this would be a deception to you, our cherished fans.
However I would urge you to please support the Priest as I have no doubt that it will be a show not to be missed.
All my love and respect,

this sucks... I'm glad he's not sick but its really crappy to leave just before a farewell tour.
I was looking forward to getting a VIP package for this tour and now KK will be missing.

at his age it's probably kids graduating college, getting married or he wants to spend the summer playing golf instead of guitar

i don't blame him. he's already a multi-millionare ( i'm assuming ) so why not tap out and enjoy the rest of your life. Unless it's like the others have said- health related.

I think it's a little shallow and self-serving to abandon the band this close to the finish line. Or maybe this is another one of those "farewell" tours that really isn't. If that's the case, I completely support him.

I'm a fan, so I don't want to sound insensitive, but Priest hasn't done anything real significant since Painkiller, imo. The reunion tour is/was nice and all, and I even thought Angel of Retribution was alright, but this doesn't really sting like it would have say 20 or 30 years ago.
