I'm sure this has happened to everyone at one time or another. I was in the gym earlier and overheard a conversation between two regulars in there that I socialize with and one of the guys was going on about how he's looking to drop 2k on "this awesome Bose" home theater system. The other guy was encouraging him saying something like "well you cant do better than Bose"!
The last time I heard something like this was when I was out with some friends and one of them were talking about a new setup he had just bought. My other friend said "Better make sure you use only Monster cables to hook it all up." I ended up debating with them for an hour and it's hard to argue with "You get what you pay for", so I kept quiet this time.
It's even worse when you're arguing with someone who knows nothing about HT systems when they know you're educated on this stuff, but they still doubt your opinions.
So what do you do? Keep quiet or put in your 2 cents?

About the best you can do on Bose is ask if tiny speakers like that is the important factor. Wheedle your way into a discussion of speakers and steer towards sound quality as a better factor. There are better tiny speaker, too.

If we were to call someone a name, someone who thinks Bose is high-end....I'd say "luddite".

Don't bother. To give a real answer you would have to spend a lot of time. Just cutting and in and saying "Bose sucks" is worthless and would be dismissed.

And you got better things to do than spend a lot of time with gym rats discussing Bose. Well I would hope you would.

I usually throw in some points and brands. But I always end up giving them a few web sites with something like this...

"here's a few web sites I visit that has some really good info on HT, TV's, sound , Blue-ray that has great reviews, insight and on the forums are installers and techs to people asking the same questions like what to buy"

That way I'm not seen as a "Mr. Know-It-All Snob" but as someone who is just trying to lend a hand.
