Ficticiuos sequel that follows a true story movie(or vice versa)
are there on movies and sequel where one in the series is based on real life events but its sequel/prequel was all made up?

Even though the "based on true events" part is highly debatable, you could make a case for Amityville Horror.

There have been half a dozen Walking Tall movies, but I think only the original and the 2004 remake are based on the real story of Sheriff Buford T Pusser.

Haven't seen either of them, and both might be more "realistic" but Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age?

Open Water 2 was a fictisious film while Open Water was based on a true story
The Marine 2 was inspired by True Events but the original Marine was not

The most obvious answer is The Blair Witch Project. The first one isn't just "based" on real events but is actually "found footage" of the real thing.

Hackers 2 (aka Track Down, aka Takedown) is based on the real-life story of hacker Kevin Mitnick

They took a lot of liberties with his story with the first one and more so on the 2nd one; especially the last couple of minutes before the credits. What's even worse is the so called prequel. He spoke English (I believe this is the only thing they got right since he did go to a Catholic school but it contradicts the Donnie Yen version), had a brother and fought off ninjas.
