HBO
Showtime
NFL Network
Golf Channel
CBS
NBC
FOX
ESPN
Food
USA
CNN Would be the last channel I would order. I cannot stand to watch their bombastic sensationalized broadcasts for even a couple of minutes.

Since i am a Luddite and either don't understand how to watch TV on my comp, or lack a fast enough connection, my choices would have to consist of things i would want to watch when shown.
FX
BBC America
NY 1 or News 12
CW
ABC family
AMC
Teen Nick
ESPNU
WLIW
SyFylis
Limiting to only 10 is really hard.

I usually watch my sitcoms on hulu anyway, so I wouldn't need the big 4 networks.

NBC (Thursday nights)
Comedy Central (Daily Show and Colbert)
Fox (Sunday cartoons)
AMC (Breaking Bad comes to mind)
BBC America (Peep Show ... if it plays on there ... I watch it online)
And for what it's worth, I watch all of this stuff online.

Pretty much ranked in the order I would want them.. I could live with just the first 4 really, I'm pretty much a network "prime time" whore when it comes to shows..
cable wise, like FX for Justified and some other stuff.. Love B grade crap so SyFy.. Rest is just sort of filler to be honest..

I'm gonna break the rules and not include Networks. I get them automatically in my society.
HBO
FX
AMC
Spike
ESPN
ESPN 2
Big Ten Network
USA
Comedy Central
History Channel
That was still pretty hard. I'll miss you TBS, TNT, and Versus!

Re: If you could pick cable channels a la carte, which ten would u get?
Showtime (Basically all their original program I watch the heck out of)
FX (Always Sunny, mainly)
NBC (most watched network, mainly for Thursday)
Fox (House, Bones)
ABC (Sunday nights, and my gf watches the Thursday shows)
Food Network (Dinner Impossible, Throwdown, random Alton stuff)
Bravo (Top Chef, gf likes the OC and NY Housewives)
AMC (Breaking Bad)
HBO (although I don't currently subscribe to it, because I pay for Showtime, I figure if I'm cutting down to 10 channels, there might be room in my budget)
TBS (Conan)

Are we assuming ESPN comes with all it's subsidiaries and sequel channels?
NBC
ABC
CBS
Fox
USA
ESPN
Disney
Discovery
Comedy Central
That's 9. I want to say CW for #10 but with Smallville ending this year I have no use for the channel after that.
That may be but at least they tend to keep it neutral unlike the crazies on Fox News & MSNbc.

Interesting question. I think I'd go with:
TBS - for Conan
FOX - for The Simpsons
CC - for The Daily Show and The Colbert Report
ABC - for Modern Family
CBS - for How I Met Your Mother
FX - for Justified
NBC - for Thursday night line-up and Parenthood
TCM - for all those movies, yo
AMC - to try all these shows everyone says are so great that I haven't seen
PBS - for everything else
I tried to think of a news network I wanted but I just couldn't. I read for my news, but mostly listen to NPR.

Re: If you could pick cable channels a la carte, which ten would u get?
However, it sometimes feels like CNN portrays its anchors as heroes. And while that may be subjective, what isn't is how subjective they are with the news. It's really difficult to find a story reported on CNN without the anchor giving a little editorial quip. Seriously, you're the news department, not the editorial department.
I can't blame CNN for this, though, because I couldn't tell you if they were the first to do this or not. It is definitely everywhere ever since a couple news producers decided editorializing would make the news entertaining and that's what's "important."
Sorry. I can't talk about this stuff without getting upset.
