Dr Mabuse

I really liked this. A film about a cruel warlord(Lau) who oppresses and conquers a region with no regard for any life but his own, but he comes to lose everything and changes his ways in a Shaolin temple. Nicholas Tse stars too.

Has a good story, fantastic mix of martial arts and wire work for some great action. Some great performances. Nothing groundbreaking as to plot, but it's done well in the vein of the best classics like '36th Chamber of Shaolin'.

It's well worth checking out.

Actually he does play a little more of a role than just a 'special appearance' in the film, but it's not related to any past characters. He's good in this.

Cine Asia has it in the UK and Well Go in the USA. Well GO will almost certainly run it theatrically, which puts home video I would guess around the end of summer. It should be available on HK Blu-ray any minute now.

Looks like it's getting a dvd & blu-ray release next week. Just pre-ordered from dddhouse. Can't wait. Been looking forward to this one.

Just got around to checking this out. There is a lot to like here. Great production values, cinematography, fights. My only complaint is that the drama didn't really have the impact they were going for.

The HK bluray is solid throughout. The bass thumps when you expect. The video quality is sharp throughout, although a good chunk of the film has a darker tone, so it's not as vivid as some other releases.

Not a timeless classic by any means, but worth a look.

I watched it today and really enjoyed it. The finale gets a tad overwhelming (could have used less slo-mo in general and a trim here and there) but it's a very solid flick.
