Hey, no thread this week - what gives? Excuse the low rent setup, but since no one else stepped up...

I'll get it started:
Not a bad show so far - I liked the first song EJ did, but someone might want to check Leon Russell's pulse before the next performance.

I've been wondering where this thread was!
LOVED this ep. Almost every skit was funny, plus bonus Tom Hanks and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Ya, quite a bit of Tom Hanks tonight. Looking forward to him on 30 Rock.
And looks like the audience forgot Will Forte left the show? No love for him tonight.

Yeah, strange...when I first saw him I thought "hey, Will Forte", and I couldn't remember if he had left or was still on the show. Then I noticed the audience didn't really react to him either. It was like running into a former co-worker on the street that you never really talked to when you worked together.

Really good episode. If I was to nitpick, WU was really weak (save for the Hitler House which I had not seen before) and they relied too much on the gay stuff. But plenty of good material compared to most shows, and I thought Elton did a great job.

Wow, Elton did a fantastic job. Who knew he had acting and comedic chops? Even his accents were really good.

I thought Elton did a decent enough job considering he has barely any experience. Quite good. Amazing it's been 29 years since he appeared on the show. A record for longest time between appearances?
But quite frankly, they had Tom Hanks, apparently since he filmed a 30 Rock episode this week. Considering that, it sucks he's on the show but not the host. He's always been excellent, so it's a shame we didn't get to see him in the majority of skits, even though he was in a ton as a non-host. But quite frankly, I thought the skits sucked and were unfunny. Elton did a great job, but he didn't have much to work with. It started out with a Welk bit, never a good sign, particularly for the freaking open of all things. Even the Digital Short was lacking this week. The KY Jelly sports bit? That sums up the show for me. Not one memorable or funny skit in my opinion. The only thing I found to be comedic was Elton's monologue, which was hilarious. I'm not too hopeful for next week either considering the host, but we shall see.

Elton was pretty much Elton in every skit. Either he played himself, or a random flaming queen. Not exactly a stretch of the acting chops. He seemed to be having fun though.
Still, I thought most of the skits were pretty good, especially the meeting of knights where Hanks did an excellent Michael Caine impression.

Did somebody turn off Leon Russells microphone during the 1st song? One part near the end it looked like he was lip syncing and confused.
At first I thought it was a April Fools joke where maybe Hanks was really the host.
I think Ozzy Osbourne would be a great host. He has great comedic chops and naturally funny.
This was the best part of the show lol

at Sting "jizzing" the dragon to death. Even considering it's on late at night, I was surprised at how risque a lot of the humor was - muff & pussy jokes, the whole KY Jelly skit.
Funny how this show always divides the forum. I thought this episode was hilarious. Loved the Digital Short, and Tom Hanks' Michael Caine impression was great.

No, I agree, it was the worst of the season. Usually at least even the bad episodes, the digital short is good. This weeks digital short was, as I have already said, characteristic of the episodes writing. Which is pathetic since they had three weeks to think of something funny. I get that the overall opinion is positive, but I personally believe it was more a testament to the job Elton did, plus the expectation one had for he he would do going in, plus Tom Hanks. The writing comedy sucked, horrifically, with the Knights the only redeeming skit. I have to believe if someone ranked it on writing alone, the opinion would be overwhelmingly negative, but maybe this episode just wasn't for me.

Laser Cats sucked and I think only the KY Jelly/Knights of the Realm skits and the Spiderman accidents were great. And I have to say, Tom Hanks' Caine impression was not very good, especially since I've seen this clip before:

Maybe Tina Fey will host soon since she has a new book coming out on April 5 though I think she hosted twice the last 2 seasons.

All I know is during the sketch where Taram Killiam kept making out with Elton John I was wondering if Cobie Smulders is getting suspicious?

This was one of the best episodes I've seen in a long time. I didn't see the final 30 minutes after Weekend Update, but the first hour was really good.
Elton John did a great job. Also funny that I couldn't remember if Will Forte was still on the show or not
