Solid hold for Limitless. I'm sure Relativity is surprised by the small dropoffs it's been having.
Hop proves kids will watch any colorful piece of crap you throw in front of them. I don't think those trailers could have looked worse to me.

haha, good one...you certainly got me with your subject title. And you're right, even though Hop is getting terrible reviews, it's a movie that (on paper) could not fail.
Now, Mars Needs Moms...who gave that one the green light?!?

With the tiny budget Insidious had, they are really rolling in the profits. I want to see it and Source Code. Actually, I thought the trailers for the later were awful and had no desire at all to check it out, but the reviews have me intrigured.
Limitless and The Lincoln Lawyer really are baffling. They definitely found their audience.

I thought the trailers for Insidious looked good, but friends have told me it's terrible. I'm not very surprised considering Wan's track record consisting of exactly one good film.
Source Code didn't look good to me, but I'm hearing it's great.
Decisions, decisions...

If you ask me, the success of Limitless and Lincoln Lawyer can mostly be explained by targeting the right audience and being GOOD movies - quality sure helps if word of mouth is good. I loved Insidious and Source Code, so I'm hoping they hang around for a while.

Why do you even have an opinion about Hop anyway, a movie you probably have zero interest in?
You know you don't have to comment on every post in every thread in every forum, right?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say most kids would say you have 'shit taste' in movies as well. It's not really the point.

I always wonder when people say kids movies are such crap is what movie 'should' the kid be watching. Its like people expect kids to demanding some artsy, oscar worthy drama instead of goofy cartoons.

In defense of Solid Snake, kids are different now. Their narcissistic, over-protective baby boomer parents insist on taking them to shitty kids' movies instead of letting them figure out what they like and what they want to see. And so MUCH of this crap comes out now that kids don't get a chance to see things that might expand their horizons. And then they buy these things on tape or disc so the kids never have to watch anything else.
When I was a kid we weren't particularly interested in "children's movies." My father took me to see THE ROBE, DEMETRIUS AND THE GLADIATORS and SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD when I was five. My mother took me to see GOLIATH AND THE BARBARIANS the following year. Before I was 9, I saw the following:
HANNIBAL (the Carthaginian conqueror, not the serial killer)
SERGEANT RUTLEDGE
THE LOST WORLD
YOUNG JESSE JAMES
JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH
SWORD AND THE DRAGON
FRANKENSTEIN 1970
ONE-EYED JACKS
BEND OF THE RIVER
THE MAGIC SWORD
THE LAST OF THE VIKINGS
THE MONGOLS
THE MINOTAUR
Plus, countless old classics on TV, like FRANKENSTEIN, KING KONG, THE THIEF OF BAGDAD, ONE MILLION B.C., GODZILLA, MIGHTY JOE YOUNG, etc. And when cartoons or movies weren't on, we watched what the grown-ups were watching, like "Perry Mason" or "Maverick" or a Sunday afternoon documentary series hosted by Walter Cronkite called "20th Century." Today, kids can watch children's programming and dumb cartoons all day long thanks to the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. In my day we had one hour a week of Disney and that was it! And it included great stuff like Zorro, The Swamp Fox and Davy Crockett. You won't find any content like that on The Disney Channel today.

Re: Weekend Box Office (4/1-4/3): Hop is a Flop
On topic: I've never said it is a favorite of mine...I fucking enjoyed it cuz it's essentially a movie that I've wanted to happen in some form since I was 4yrs old...but that sure as hell doesn't stop me from criticizing the shit out of it. It was pretty damn mediocre but damnit....I enjoyed it.
Also...kids do have shit taste in movies. I'm not saying I didn't...I did. Anything w/ Hulk Hogan was gold for me as a kid in the early 90s.
