12 Episode "Transporter" TV series, to be aired by Cinemax!?!?!?

from Deadline
Cinemax is teaming with Luc Besson for a TV series based on his popular Transporter film franchise. After lengthy negotiations, HBO's sibling pay-cable channel has committed to 12 episodes of the action drama, produced by French company Atlantique and executive produced by Besson. This is the second series order under Cinemax's current push in original scripted fare. Last month, the network partnered with British satcaster Sky for another action series, the 10-part Strike Back.

Transporter, the series, will center on professional transporter Frank Martin, played in the movies by Jason Statham. Operating in a seedy underworld of dangerous criminals and desperate players, Martin can always be counted on to get the job done — discreetly. He has three rules: Never change the deal, no names and never open the package.

Transporter, which has also secured broadcasters in France (M6) and Germany (RTL) will begin production this summer in Europe and Canada. According to Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp., the budget for the series is $48 million. Atlantique's parent company Lagardere Entertainment is fully-financing the show, having licensed The Transporter from EuropaCorp. In addition to Besson, the series is being executive produced by Klaus Zimmermann and Fred Fuchs.

I guess they wanted to do something besides softcore porn shows

all the other pay channels have been successful with episodic tv, not sure why they wouldn't get into that realm too.

I've wondered why Cinemax never pursued any original programming. They may as well join the party.

Here's a trailer for the show. Still no word on when this is airing, though.

Some of the acting looks really bad. Action looks good for a tg budget though.

I'm not against the idea, but why not just create a new character that picks up the mantle? You can tell the guy doesn't fit into Statham's role.

According to a few Internet reports, it will air this October on Cinemax.

Cinemax is also premiering another show in October called "Hunted" that was created by Frank Spotnitz.

So is Frank Martin gonna be gay like (Louis Leterrier claimed) in the second movie, straight like in the first and third movie, or will they just Jack Harkness him?

I'd read that too, but then I saw they were still shooting last month and this month (due to Vance's injury and subsequent hiatus). I wasn't sure if it was still going to happen. This show, Hunted and that new William Petersen show about being a hitman, is making seem like Cinemax is going in the right direction for episodic television.

BTW, Hunted is confirmed to start October 26th.

Yeah I was aware Vance got injured while filming, but didn't hear anything about production resuming. I heard they had like 5 more episodes left to shoot.

BTW, Cinemax has another new action series for January 2013 that is shooting right now called "Banshee" that was created by Alan Ball of True Blood.

Here's the synopsis:

BANSHEE: This action series follows an ex-convict and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, Pa., where he continues his criminal activities, even as he's being hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier. Antony Starr, Ivana Milicevic, Ulrich Thomsen, Frankie Faison, Rus Blackwell, Ryann Shane and Ben Cross star. Alan Ball, Greg Yaitanes, Peter Macdissi, Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler executive produce. The ten-episode season debuts in Jan. 2013.

Has anyone seen this series? It aired overseas and the Blu-Ray is available, but I was wondering if it's actually any good.

Alright, that's twice this week I watched something (Transporter 3 last night) and though about bumping an old thread only to see someone else bump it.

I think it's kinda stupid the show is doing the Crow thing and using the same character from the film but using a different actor.

It hasn't aired yet in the U.S., so chances are most haven't seen it.

Cinemax has given no indication when they will air it.

Hard to believe they aired this overseas first, unless it is just complete garbage. The delays sucked (for the main guy's injury while filming), but it's weird this hasn't aired at all. I guess maybe they don't want to have it on at the same time as banshee or strikeback.

I looked to see if it was available by 'alternate' means, and it started airing in Canada in January. It's aired in France and Germany, but the episode order is completely different for all 3 countries. It's supposed to air on Cinemax in June.

I'm downloading the first episode now. If it's good, I may import the Blu. I'll report back after I've seen it.

Yeah I read the episode order is all screwed up for the overseas airings. Since I'm paying for Cinemax, I'm going to hold out and wait until it airs here. Hopefully it does air in June and Cinemax airs it in the right order.

Yeah I think I'll just wait too. I'm sure Cinemax will air it in the proper order.

You are very perceptive!

I too have seen a few episodes through “alternate” means and unfortunately the guy playing Statham’s part is a low rent knock-off.

The episodes all have a European feel even though every one speaks English. There are the typical car chases and the girls are hot (Carla = yum).

So, if you really, really, like action-adventure shows, you may stick around after the first episode.

I suspect though, that many people will bail.

Who's doing the fights? Surely Yuen isn't doing TV stuff? Any directors of note? I'm surprised that this hasn't gotten any buzz even after some episodes have aired overseas, probably does mean it's terrible. If it has any good action, I might give it a rental, Besson has certainly made this into a bigger franchise than anyone would've expected.

Not good. Not good at all. I remember the main character (he played Whistler in Prison Break) and he's just not charismatic at all. The action is pretty low rent.

I won't import the rest.

i assume (given that cinemax is importing) that the show is pretty TV-MA? as the movies are all PG-13

Are they really? I'm not sure why but I always assumed all three were R.

All three were PG-13. Though they were slightly edited for the US release (much like Taken, whose most notorious excised bit was perfectly acceptable in the green band trailer but not in the PG-13 cut of the film ).

Aren't the French DVDs the uncut R-rated versions?
