My action movie rant.....

I am so sick of this stupid f*ckin' pose!!! This has been used in virtually every action/superhero/martial arts movie for the last 10 years!!!

I don't know where it came from--some HK movie or something, and it may have been cool the first 50 times, but enough already!!

Thank you for your time.

Any chance you could get a bigger screencap? I can barely see what you're talking about.

I had to make the picture commensurate with my rage.

I think you have a legitimate complaint.

Could we see some screencaps of other movies with that pose?

I'm ok with hot chicks in that pose. Not guilty.

I dunno, NFL players have been doing that pose for decades, haven't they? If it works for them...

I think he means that tiny headset she's wearing. Squint and you can almost see it.

In all seriousness, it's a balance/centre of gravity issue. That's the reason for the pose whenever a caharcter lands from a leaping position, which usually precedes that pose.

I think the hand out the back makes it more annoying. There's no reason for it. I know it's supposed to make someone look "cat-like", but I've never seen a cat actually land like that.

Re: My action movie rant.....

The first time I saw that pose was way back in 1974 in an issue of Detective Comics with the Manhunter character created by Walt Simonson. I remember it because they used it in the Matrix opening sequence where one of the characters that was chasing Trinity across the rooftops used the same exact pose as he landed. Mike Grell also used that same pose with various members of the Legion of Superheroes back in the mid 70's when he drew the comic.

Again, balance. The arm outstretched towards the back represents the tail of a cat. It's a counterweight.

The classic 3 point stance. I know it well.

....it's not really a rant I think. More like loudly griping in a few sentences about one very little thing. Your rant..isn't what I call a rant. You wanna know how to do a rant? Find chris_sc77..that bastard knew how to do it. Granted...he was wrong..but his skills to rant were remarkable. And annoying.

on a serious note....I'm not sure if you do some athletic stuff but...some people land like that when they land..it's a balance thing. Sure it's used in movies...but...it happens in real life to. You land on all fours and your pretty much have your back in a horizontal pose. The hand in the front allows to push backward a bit more to look up.

When we see guys like this lined up with his left hand stretched out straight backwards, then I'll buy the argument that it's perfectly natural.

Re: My action movie rant.....

Going back to the OP's picture, why would you need to balance yourself when you land if all the action is taking place in your mind? hmm...

I do some athletic stuff, which is why this pose bothers me . But, I'm open to having my mind changed---I'd just need to see photographic evidence of this pose, with the arm straight out back, being used regularly in any sport.

I always think of P.N.03 (a game I've never even played) when I see that pose.

wait...I thought we were arguing the land on the 3 land pose? You never brought up the whole hand thing till later..so..we're JUST arguing about the placement of the arm and hand in the 3 land pose or...THAT specific pose? Your opening rant has failed bring up what we now know is your specific argument. *sigh*
