Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City March, 2012
Just read about what's supposed to be the latest installment of the RE series. I love the franchise, but I'm not sure I like the direction they are going. Should be interesting, at the least.
-------------------------------------------------------
"An exclusive article apparently lifted from the next issue of the US edition of Official Xbox Magazine forms the basis for a report on StickSkills, supposedly unveiling the next game in the Resident Evil series. It's called Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and throws the story back to 1998 amid the advent of the zombie outbreak in the titular city, as previously seen in Resident Evil 2 & 3.
Operation Raccoon City is a team-based shooter according to the report, that has you playing as part of a team of Umbrella Security Service Operatives working to contain and cover up the epidemic, while wiping out any survivors. Your four-person team wil comprise of characters Vector, Beltway, Bertha and Spectre, and they're inspired by Resi 2's hidden character, Hunk.
You'll even be able to affect and even change the course of Resident Evil history in a darker storyline that will give you the chance to actually kill key characters in the series, including Resi 2 and 4 hero, Leon S. Kennedy. There's three factions in the narrative too, including the USS team, Spec Ops and the 'bio-organic weapons' created by Umbrella, including the Tyrant.
Slant Six, the developer behind SOCOM: Confrontation on PS3, is working on the game according to the report, which is lifted from the pages of the US OXM May 2011 issue. We'll see if this is all for real when the mag hits the newsstands. Still, we hope it's real, as it sounds like an interesting direction for the Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is apparently slated for a winter 2011 release."

I read the title "Operation Raccoon City" and thought to myself "Awesome. We are getting remakes of RE 1-3."
Then I read further that it is just some lame team-based shooter spinoff. This sounds worse than the Umbrella Chronicles rail-shooter on Wii.
Talk about MASSIVE disappointment.

so now if I don't have 3 friends to play with, I have to control the inventory of 3 other people who like to empty their clips in the air, while spraying me with the last can of health when I take a small amount of damage? HELL YEAH!
Actually if they are going to do 4 player coop I don't care, bring it on...Res Evil 5 was actually a fun game IF you played with someone else...

I'm actually really excited about this. I'm working my way through Borderlands on the PS3 with some buddies and was wishing the PS3 had something like Left For Dead 2. I think this might fit the bill.
I'd much rather this than another on-rails shooter installment or the 3DS one.

This is terrible if true. I thought RE4 was a step in the right direction, but this just sounds like it will continue the decline started by RE5.

So after the consensus that the co-op is what killed RE5, they go and make an RE that's even more geared towards co-op? Idiots.

And also many RE fans have been clamoring for a RE2 remake ever since the RE1 remake on Cube. When Capcom finally goes back into RE2 territory on the Wii... they turn it into a lame rail-shooter with the Darkside Chronicles... and now they are turning it into a co-op shooter.
Capcom has lost their marbles.

Hmm. I took "team based shooter" to mean like a Time-Crisis type shooter, but I could very well be mistaken. Are they talking first-person-type shooter, then?

I don't know whether it's first-person or third-person, but it sounds like it will be along the lines of a SOCOM or Rainbow Six game.

WTF happened to take a long break and reboot everything?
They should pull a Halloween 3 and introduce a new zombie story with new characters, cities ....
