Capitalizing on Abed's (Danny Pudi) love of cinema and pop culture, Jeff (Joel Mchale) plans a very special "Pulp Fiction" style surprise party for Abed's birthday. No.

From Dan Harmon's Twitter:

I wouldn't kick any promotion out of bed, but if you're expecting a "Pulp Fiction Spoof" tomorrow, start being disappointed.

Pierce: "I'm hot and my balls are touching the zipper."

Waiter: "Excellent choice"
Jeff: "Yeah, I nailed it."

Abed really is psychotic

Re: Community -- "Critical Film Studies" -- 3/24/11

Abed's monologue was brilliant; all at once depressing, hilarious, and disturbing.

Abed: "If I'm a person that watches Cougar Town, how can I be in Cougar Town?"

---

While not exactly a spoof of Pulp Fiction, this episode is definitely a tribute to Quentin Tarantino and movies that put dialogue and characterizations first.

Troy: "Chang made me do it! He seduced me with his dark Chinese powers!"
Chang: "Why do you leave him alone with me?!"

Re: Community -- "Critical Film Studies" -- 3/24/11

Pierce walking into the restaurant in the Gimp outfit and then calling Jeff and Abed gay, lol.

Man, what a great twist. I thought they were really taking Abed in a different direction, at least for this episode, and it was perfectly executed. I love how he was just acting out "My Dinner with Andre," but once Pierce interrupted in the Gimp outfit, he broke character and was ready to go to the Pulp Fiction Party. That whole thing totally caught me off guard. Well done Community, well done.

Jeff: "So did you really poop your pants on the set of Cougar Town?"
Abed: "That shouldn't matter."

---

Troy wrapping the toy helicopter.

I'll never forget my My dinner with Andre dinner with Abed.

This was a weird episode, and yet it encompasses everything I love about Community. Hope it never changes.

Re: Community -- "Critical Film Studies" -- 3/24/11

This episode was over far too soon. Really quite different from everything else they've done this season, but easily one of my favorite episodes, mostly due to Abed's monologue at the beginning that took up about a third of the episode.

I love that this show is willing to take risks; sometimes they miss (the Abed film episode), but other times they hit it out of the park (this episode). So glad we'll be getting another year of Community. Since college is usually four years, I hope NBC gives it a fourth season and they can end it properly.

---

Loved that ending with Troy and Abed, lol. Donald Glover is a master of facial expressions. The way he makes his eyes pop out of his head never fails to make me laugh.

Troy: "What market are you shopping at?!"

This.

Such a good episode! All the jokes Jeff made about Cougartown I think it would be cool to see Abed actually in the background of an episode of Cougartown now!

The Pulp Fiction theme was done well too.

It takes balls to set your closing montage to Gymnopédie No. 1; I don't think the episode warranted it, but it was nice to hear. I did like Annie's little smile to herself when she was right about the number of times Abed would say "cool." And it shows how engaging these characters are that you can imagine the backstory of why Troy would call wine "no-no juice."

Thank you! I couldn't remember what the composition was called, but knew I had heard it before.

True, "college" is usually four years... BUT this is Junior College... I actually attended one years ago and there were many, many "career/lifer" students at the JC level that had been there five even six years plus.

I can see Community going well beyond the assumed "four years" even though JC's typically are used as a "two year" cost saving measure before a student transfers to a proper University.

I can see Jeff Winger sticking around in his own little "private hell" for many more seasons. Plus, Dan Harmon hasn't even come close to "jumping the shark" yet... with a show like Community is it even possible to do so?

Have you seen MDw/A (has anyone here)? This episode's 10x funnier if you've seen it, as it was that through and through - Abed's sweater gave it away, and his experience on the set of Cougar Town was very similar to the story Andre Gregory told. But the clincher was Jeff's ending narration.

Not the whole thing, but I've seen enough of it to be pissed that I didn't catch on before it was revealed.

I thought this episode was ok. Abed's monologue and the briefcase being on fire were funny.

No, I have not. I posted that after Abed's monologue in the beginning, which was before the reveal of Abed playing a character from the movie.

I definitely plan on checking the movie out now though.

(I always expect Andre to slip him some iocane powder.)

Comment pages are already full of Community fans. Same with most YouTube versions of the Satie piece.
