Man, that's too bad. I was a big fan. Loved his album, Music & Me, and he was always great as a featured artist.

Re: Rip Rapper Nate Dogg

Hold up.

When I was a kid in Ireland, you didn't hear much rap on the radio; something as sterile as "Boom! Shake the Room" was as far as the DJs would usually go. Somehow, Warren G and Nate Dogg's "Regulate" managed to get regular airplay after 10pm, albeit with a mix that kept Michael McDonald's choruses from "I Keep Forgetting". It became a firm favorite of mine, and years later I still know every last lyric - but for the love of God, don't embarrass the pair of us by asking me to sing it.

RIP Nate Dogg.

Re: Rip Rapper Nate Dogg

Damn real shocking considering how young he was, Regulate was required listening coming up and helped introduce me to hip hop all together. Some of my favorite songs have hooks by him. RIP

Re: Rip Rapper Nate Dogg

I should've posted this one as well, although his contribution wasn't as prominent it seems appropriate...

Listening to some Regulate right now in his honor. It's too bad that we will not hear his smooth hooks on any future releases. Damn!

RIP and all that, but I'd hardly consider Nate Dogg a rapper.

Not to disrespect the guy's memory, but am I the only one who feels while he had a presence in rap up until his stroke, that the height of his strongest relevance was the early to mid 90s?

No, you're not. The G-Funk Era was Nate Dogg in his prime; appearances with Warren G, 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, etc. But he had later successes with other artists, namely Eminem and 50 Cent. The music he made and contributed to during the early to mid '90s was great, and a lack of relevance later in his career doesn't diminish his earlier contributions.

His album, Music & Me, was great though, and that was released in 2001.

Yeah, I was just wondering what others thought. I made the comment tonight to some people about his heyday and they acted like I was an idiot and tried to pass off his stuff with Ludacris and Eminem as the pinnacle of his career.

Still a great loss, as he was a one-of-a-kind figure.

That's pretty standard for rap, isn't it? They'll be hot and crossover into the mainstream for a bit, then fade back into the genre or go into something else like acting.

"Keep It G.A.N.G.S.T.A." is sick.

Re: Rip Rapper Nate Dogg

I'm no longer the hip-hop fan I was in high school, but his voice was prominent during my formative years. "Regulate" takes me way back. And 41 is far too young to go.
