Zev and Justin seems very strong this race. I think they would have gotten far in their first race had they not lost their passports. Jet and Cord are surprisingly slow this edition ... seems they are hanging back or just trying to stay with the pack but they are bleeding quite a bit of time going from place to place. Wow, Ron is a douche bag ... I don't remember him being this bad previously. Sorry about Mike and Mel but they should never have signed up again for the race because the deathwatch on Mel was very uncomfortable. They took a spot from one of the dating couples like Colin and Christie or a team from the early editions like maybe Team Smiley or Wil and Tara.

I like Mel and Mike, but if they weren't physically capable of running the race then they shouldn't have come back.

^Agreed. It also seemed especially on this challenge that the son (Mike?) gave up a lot quicker than his dad did. They may have been able to finish the task if he had tried helping.

Just glad the cheerleaders were able to make up time spent waiting for the cop for the side mirror swipeage.

Agreed - they were my team in the contest, but they are both pretty weak to be in this competition.

I do like their relationship though. Good people, and would show ron and christina a thing or two about that.

Surprised that Cristina is engaged to the guy from her season

I'm surprised so many teams chose the "needle in the haystack" challenge over standing in a waterfall for a minute. I thought it was fairly obvious what the easier/less frustrating choice was. As cold as the waterfall was it was only a couple minutes; some teams were clearly in the mud for a fairly long time.

Agree, I don't understand why most of the teams chose that challenge. It was a filthy challenge and it was like finding a needle in a haystack. The other one only involved some chanting and sitting in really cold & clean water for what 10-15 minutes tops?

I got a huge laugh seeing Flight Time and Big Easy chanting and dying in that cold water.

at Phil issuing the 30 minute penalty to the Globetrotters for screwing over Christina and Ron.

Whew! to Jaime and Cara still hanging in there. They were so dead until Mel and Mike quit.

I thought the same thing. The only thing I could come up with was that so many teams struggled with the Roadblock, which involved repeating a Japanese custom, that maybe teams were scared off by the Detour that sounded a bit similar. Turned out to not really be detail oriented at all, but they wouldn't know that from the clue.

I don't know why Mike and Mel didn't try switching roadblocks earlier on when this one started to prove impossible for them. Mike didn't seem into the game as much this time out. It appears his dad wanted to do this more than him. Too bad because I like them as a team because they're sort of casual about stuff, never taking it too seriously where most teams are frantic.

When they open these Detour cards aren't they just given the names of the challenges they need to choose between? I'm pretty sure they don't know all of the details of what they'll need to do until they show up at one or the other. I could be wrong.

Shame to get a challenge with the cheerleaders in skimpy attire + mud and it's in the dark.

No, they are given all the details about each task. They only get details for the Roadblock after they decide who will perform it. And the Fast Forward is a complete surprise until they show up at the location.

I'm surprised it was only a 30-minute penalty. Granted, it wasn't knowingly malicious, but they should at least have incurred a penalty equal to the time they cost Christina and Ron (and maybe they did). But knowingly sabotaging another team's ability to continue by stealing/moving items should have a very stiff penalty IMO. Otherwise a team could really cause trouble making it a no-holds-barred Amazing Race!

Can't remember the particulars, but I do remember there being a team that hid tools that other teams would need in order to complete a Roadblock, and I believe they got 30 minutes as well.

Maybe it's early in the race but I'm lovin' Mallory's spunk. The other father/daughter relationship also makes for some great TV.

Justin: "She's gonna break a mirror..watch!"

Nice foreshadowing by Justin at the parking garage regarding Jamie/Cara's side-view mirror accident.
