DVD Talk review of 'Shinsengumi Chronicles: I Want to Die a Samurai'
I read Thomas Spurlin's DVD review of Shinsengumi Chronicles: I Want to Die a Samurai at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=45716 and...
I don't want to comment on the DVD review, but would like to ask a question about the DVD, itself. I recently purchased this DVD and tried to watch it, but the subtitles on my copy became out of sync with the audio (they were late by several seconds). After 25 - 30 minutes or so, it became too much of a distraction to watch any further.
I contacted AnimEigo about the problem and they told me that would send me a new copy if I sent my copy to them to check out. When they watched the copy I sent them, however, they told me that it played perfectly for them, but that they would still send me a new copy. When I played the new copy they sent me, I experienced the same problem with out of sync subtitles!
The guy at AnimEigo suggests that it must be "Some kind of player compatibility issue." I have tried playing it on two different DVD players (a Sony and a Pioneer), though, and the subtitles are exactly the same for me on both.
Has anyone else had the same problem with this DVD? Any suggestions on how I might possibly be able to correct the problem?
I've searched all over the internet, but I can't find anyone else mentioning that they've had this problem with this particular DVD. I can't imagine why this is happening to me. I own a bunch of other AnimEigo DVDs, but this the first one I've ever had a problem with.
Luckily, I have an older bootleg copy of this movie that I am able to watch that has decent subtitles. I'd love of be able to enjoy the legitimate US release of it, though!
Thanks,
bobusan

Re: DVD Talk review of 'Shinsengumi Chronicles: I Want to Die a Samurai'
I spot-checked dialogue scenes in the first half-hour of my DVD and I saw no problem. The subs and the dialogue were perfectly in sync. Sorry you had a problem with your disc.
