American - The Bill Hicks Story

I love Bill Hicks. I heard about this doc a while back. Dullboy pointed this out to me, it's now availible on Amazon UK for 9.99 pounds (about $20 US). Great comedian, I really look forward to seeing this.

EDIT: Just realized as this is a Region B release, mods may want to move it to the International forum.

Why the hell is a movie about an American comedian so hard to get ahold of in America?

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

He was (and is) FAR more popular in the UK than he ever was here, so it's not that odd.

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

I have this release and even though I have only got round to watching the main disc (the second disc has TONS of extras) it is a great feature on my comedy hero.
The HMV exclusive has some artcards, which as a rule I hate, but are not too bad.

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

Thanks for the efforts, anyhow!

Shouldn't there be a law that all discs titled "American" should work in American players?

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

I just got my copy in today. And good news for those interested - it's region free. Just tested out on 2 of my players and sure enough, it's an all region set. I'm not sure why jdslater1's didn't work. But it played just fine in mine.

So I guess they do work in American players.

Damn this is a fantastic set. Great doc and about 5 hours of extras.

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

Okay - not sure if it's a false alarm or not, but the same thing is happening when I play it in my Sony BDP-S470 player the same as jdslater - the main menu pops up, but nothing happens. I tried everything, from going through scene selection, but nothing plays, just the main menu. But my region free Curtis Mathes player DOES play it, even without me having to enter in my region free code.

Maybe the movie is encoded as 1080i/50 ? Some US players are able to handle that format (via conversion), while others can't.

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

Well I JUST bought a Region Free Blu-Ray player and this was the Blu-Ray that pushed me to finally do it. I plan on getting a few other Blu-Rays from overseas but I just HAD to have this. Of course it also helps that I have a few Other-Region DVDs that I no longer have a Region Free DVD Player for(Phantasm,They Live,Dead Alive Uncut,Dawn of the Dead)

Are there any reviews on this bad boy? Because I want to read a review even tho I already ordered it from sendit.com.

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

What in particular were you wondering about? The documentary is excellent, good PQ and AQ, and the extras are plentiful. I doubt you will be let down by this set.

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

Good news! There's now a trailer for this on the US Apple site, so we'll be getting a North American release of some kind, whether theatrical or just video.

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

A 2 disc set with no special features? Is this one long ass documentary or what? I know that they will list the special features later and I'm excited! And just a heads up to those that have Netflix there are some Bill Hicks live performances on there for your viewing pleasure.

Re: American - The Bill Hicks Story

I've got this on pre-order and I can't wait to watch it. The video quality appears to be up and down but the content should be good.
