I Saw The Devil - Red Band Trailer
My favorite film from last year is coming to theaters March 4th. An amazingly brutal and fun movie.

They really need to release Tale of Two Sisters on BD too. C'mon Tartan.

It's a good film. I liked it. Quite dark. Wild as a follow-up to 'The Good, The Bad, The Weird'.
Not Kim's best by any means, but a solid film with good performances.

I'm actually surprised that no one has released "A Bittersweet Life" (Arguably Kim's best movie) on DVD/BLU in the states

Saw this last night and thought it was well made. Not much really to the story, but it is one of the better revenge movies in recent years. The violence was pretty raw and i felt it gave a realistic view of what true psychos are like in life. Every time i see one arrested they seem to be hollow husks of humans who are free of all emotion for their victims. Certainly captures this in the movie.

Watched this last night. Very good revenge tale, not too far off from Oldboy or Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. The cast was great and even at 2 hours and 20 minutes, the film kept up a good pace.

Re: I Saw The Devil - Red Band Trailer
I saw I Saw the Devil last night and agree with everything the good Dr (Mabuse) states. Unfortunately I went in with high expectations and left a little underwhelmed.
Good
- Premise (punishment angle is great). The crowd I saw this with really responded when they discovered what this film was really about - when Byung-hun shows up the second time.
- Korean black humor is well on display
- The actual filming (Ji-woon has a knack for this)
- Homeages (To Ji-woon's own first film - The Quiet Family and I believe there's an ode to Memories of Murder)
- Min-sik's performance
- And for those that like Midnight Meat Train level of brutality there's enough of that on display for some random rated R foreign film being shown in the states.
Bad
- Byung-hun's performance (I wouldn't say it was necessarily bad but this was not in the league of Bittersweet Life or Bungee Jumping of Their Own).
- Could have easily been trimmed down 30 minutes or more. Every scene involving a cop could have been removed and not affected a thing - except being a set up for the great "custody" scene with Min-sik in the street.
- I was expecting more suspense.
- The film itself felt a little lopsided as I (and the audience) didn't know how to respond to certain scenes. The black humor is pushed too far in spots when it felt uncomfortable breaking out in laughter considering what was happening on-screen (then again, that was probably the point).
All in all, I'm glad I got a chance to see it with an audience.
Btw - that trailer shows way too much.

There actually is no rating for the movie. IDK if Magnet tried submitting it and had problems, or if they knew they couldn't get an R without cutting.
I just checked Woon's imdb page, and now i want to see "the Foul King" which is apparently about pro wrestling. any good?

I can't wait for this movie to get released on bluray. I'm kinda surprised to see that Park Chan-wook's short is going to be a special feature on the disc, but that just gives me another reason why I'll need to own this movie.

Wish I could help out on The Foul King. Unfortunately it's the only film of Woon's I have not seen.
