My Sony DVD player model #DVP-S330 is experiencing difficulties and I'm pretty much fed up with it at this point. Just in the last two weeks, it has randomly decided to turn the screen black, and the video 1 text comes up on my sony screen, then at a random time the picture comes back in. Sometimes this happens only once per movie, sometimes not at all, and sometimes it won't stop flickering on and off. Has anyone else had this problem, heard of this problem, and/or know of a solution to this problem? I have no clue what is wrong with the machine, but its happening on every disc so I believe it to be hardware related.

HELP!

Are you connecting it through a vcr? Sounds like it might be a macrovision problem.

Try connecting it directly to the tv.

If not, I'm not sure what the problem might be.

Yeah, its connected properly (to the TV)

This just started all of a sudden, and no connections have been changed in months. So there perhaps is a problem with the players firmware. I've heard of recalls, but couldn't find any info online in a short search.

Gonna call the sony store right now.

If it's connected thru the s-video, try the composite connection. Or vice versa. If one and not the other is screwed up, you've narrowed down your problem.

Just called the sony store, he hasn't heard of any recalls, but he sounded like a moron.

I don't think My TV has composite connections. And besides, I don't see how it can be a connection problem since I haven't touched them since we got the player last christmas.

You're probably thinking of component, which your tv doesn't have. Composite is a single (yellow, generally) rca cable connection.

You're probably right that the connection isn't a problem, but sometimes things get jostled and break. It might be worth a look.

I checked my connections and played back a DVD without problem. Although this isn't for sure gone yet, I'll certainly keep you posted on the results.

Thank you for your input.

Glad to help. Chock one up for stevevt's theory of jostling.
