Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the midseason premiere, which kicks off a string of six all-new episodes of FRINGE, an Observer makes contact with the Fringe Team to help rectify a mistake. Meanwhile, Walter befriends Roscoe Joyce (Christopher Lloyd), keyboardist for Walter's favorite 1970s band, "Violet Sedan Chair." Walter will learn the real reason the band broke up, and realize that the lives of these two men, who have never met before, overlap in strange and unexpected ways.

Episode 10 of 22

Interview with Producers Jeff Pinkner and JH Wyman about the move to Friday night. They sound very positive about the move. I encourage all of you to watch this clip. They even mention the show having a 5-7 year arc.

Isn't it a bad omen that the move starts with an episode called Firefly?

I'm actually going to be able to watch it live! (But I'll DVR it anyways!)

CAN'T WAIT!

I really hope this gets the same ratings it did on Thursdays. That would be considered a successful move, I would think.

First time I'm watching Fringe live since mid-season one. I've caught up through DVDs and the Fox website and ready to go! This show has improved so much over the first season. Can't wait!

More like an example of the show's morbid sense of humor.

Sounds more like they are trying to convince themselves it's a good move.

I sure hope this isn't the 'beginning of the end' -- looking forward to its return.

Re: Fringe -- New Timeslot -- "The Firefly" -- 1/21/11

I honestly don't see this as a bad move. They were never going to fare well in the numbers on Thursday at 9 with all the competition, they were a distant 4th every week. Even Bones couldn't hold half of the Idol lead-in, and that was with Grey's Anatomy taking the week off. I'm not saying Bones did bad last night, but Fringe would have fared much worse.

The biggest problem with the Friday slot is the terrible lead-in it will get with Kitchen Nightmares. If Fringe can get the same kind of numbers, it will easily get renewed. But I don't think it needs to retain its numbers to survive. So long as it doesn't fall into the Terminator/Dollhouse/Good Guys realm, the chances for survival look pretty good.

With Lie To Me not getting the back 9 and Human Target not really finding an audience, Fringe is looking pretty good. If The Chicago Code tanks as well, Fringe almost has to survive by default.

I wonder if Walter's mention of "Dr. Jacoby from Washington State" was a reference to Russ Tamblyn's character on "Twin Peaks"?

My DVR keeps cutting off in the middle of recording. At first, I thought it was because I had something sitting on it. But it's still doing it after removing the obstacle.

There's no need to wonder. It was a pretty blatant reference with the glasses.

Talk about "Firefly" by Joss Whedon, there is absolutely no chance that they are continuing the series, is there?

This ep was "off" to me. I had a hard time staying with it the whole time. Maybe I need to watch it again.

I was reading somewhere where they are going to simplify it a bit since the general public seems to get confused.

So that means that now Fringe shares a universe with Lost, Xfiles, Twin Peaks, and by extrapolation, also Homicide, Law and Order, Arrested Development, and probably a few others.

Huh? I loved the episode. I'm surprised at the negative reactions. Interesting concept with time travel and ripples that changing things cause. I don't think we've seen all the ripples from the Observer's meddling in this episode yet. And Christopher Lloyd was great.

I really hope this show survives, it's so much better than anything else that's on TV (from my perspective). I hope the writers continue to write compelling stories for each episode, and the 'suits' keep their damned fingers away from that 'Cancel' button. -kd5-

Loved the episode. The character relations have reached heights I couldn't imagine back in season 1.

The ratings were up to a 1.9 from the previous new episode of 1.7. That's a good sign, they just have to maintain and a renewal is likely.

I was expecting something more fast paced but it was still okay. But maybe not the best thing to come back to after that break.

FOX won the night in the demos and Fringe actually managed to build on the overall numbers of its lead-in.

If it stays that way, Fringe will be back in the fall. I'd say Fringe just pulled ahead of Human Target and Lie To Me in the renewal race.

Now for the one negative, CSI: NY was a rerun last night. We'll see if the numbers hold when it comes back to this slot on Feb. 11. There's another rerun next week, then a Super Bowl Commercial special on the 4th.

Re: Fringe -- New Timeslot -- "The Firefly" -- 1/21/11

Christopher Lloyd did a great job, as did the rest of the cast.

The story was a little hard to follow and I found myself rewinding things more than once, but I like how it came around at the end.

Can't wait for next week. Glad the ratings were up a bit.
