Oh No!! Like it or Hate it, It's Back!!!

Television's No. 1 series returns for its milestone 10th season with all-new contestants, a brand-new judging panel and the best and worst of auditions. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the show that transforms dreams into reality welcomes seasoned superstars Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, who will sit alongside Randy Jackson at the judges' table. Together with in-house mentor Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M records, the judging panel brings unparalleled experience to the show and promises to take the contestants on an unforgettable journey. This season, AMERICAN IDOL travels across the country to Austin, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Nashville, New Jersey, New Orleans and San Francisco where the good, the bad and the outrageous audition for their shot at stardom. Don't miss the auditions that everyone will be talking about the next day in the "Auditions #1" episode of AMERICAN IDOL premiering Wednesday, Jan. 19 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (ID-1001/1002) (TV-PG D, L)

I was so tempted to bolt after Simon left, but I can't resist.

The Auditions are absolutely the worst part of the show. They are going to last through February 10th. So, I'm doing 1 thread for it until Hollywood week.

In:
Steven Tyler
Jennifer Lopez
Jimmy Iovine (In House Mentor)

Out:
Kara DioGuardi
Ellen DeGeneres
Simon Cowell

This is also Randy "Yo Dawg" Jackson's last season contracted on the show. He's most likely done after season 10.

I will be watching, love the auditions. They are funny and a few really good singers.

The new 3 could be very good, they all have real music knowledge.

The bad auditions stopped being funny for me around season 3 or 4. It got to the point of being a chore to get through. Although it is nice to see a cute girl here and there who can sing well. I enjoy Hollywood week alot more.

now that Simon is not on and there is pretty much no indication that any of them are going to be mean to the contestants, I'm not watching. It'll be interesting to see what kind of ratings hit (if any) there will be w/o Simon.

Me too, best part of the show. I love watching the idiots making fools of themselves.

I'm not happy that Simon left, but I'm sticking with it.

These first set of auditions don't entertain me as much as they used to. Watching the clueless and the mentally ill gets old quickly.

Haven't heard much from S9 winner Lee Dewyze, have we?

He did release an album, but it's pretty much gotten no major promotion or fanfare from what I can tell.

Why did they keep Randy? I'll admit that I hated Karla and the fact that it took her 100 words to say what a normal person could say in 20 but even she would have been better then bringing Randy back.

I hate it already. Lopez and Aerosmith are more annoying then anyone else who has ever been on this show.

Ok, I don't typically watch this show. I have never just sat down and been a viewer and watched an entire season. So what I have to say may or may not mean anything at all.

Anyway, with that said, I have had it on for about 3 minutes and I already hate Lopez and Tyler on this show.

Steven Tyler was way better on Stern yesterday. Talking about anal sex and his drug use. On this he's an absolute bore.

Re: American Idol -- Season 10 Auditions Thread -- Wednesday/Thursday on FOX

Why in the world did they decide to have them all play nice anyway? I have barely ever watched the show and that instantly screams to me like a huge failure.

Unless they are going to "script" it where one of them goes crazy at some point this season and just screams screw it and becomes a huge ass.

Wow, is Randy seriously playing the Simon role? Where is the brutally honest judge at? Simon might have said some nasty things, but you know what? He was right! This is going to be a long season...when does X Factor come on?

I enjoyed this episode. The show felt more fresh. I think the show just felt tired and heavy previously with the feeling that really Simon did not want to be there. This show was so much better. I am glad. I actually was rooting for the last kid. I hope he makes it far.

Re: American Idol -- Season 10 Auditions Thread -- Wednesday/Thursday on FOX

I agree chowderhead, the show had kind of devolved into a formula where Simon was mean, Randy was all 'yo yo dawg' and whoever the chick in the middle happened to be was kinda nice-ish. It's time for a re-boot.

Plus Lopez & Tyler bring some star power to the show. Industry accomplishments (and Ellen) aside, the rest of the judges were famous mostly for being judges on American Idol. It's kind of fun to watch these people when they realize they're standing in front of Steven Tyler and J-Lo.

In for the season.

I just can't see it keeping its audience after Simon has left. If Randy is leaving after this season, I can't see American Idol being around much longer. I'm surprised its lasted this long to be honest.

Re: American Idol -- Season 10 Auditions Thread -- Wednesday/Thursday on FOX

Ick, I actually forgot about the hard luck stories.

The nutty girl who pleaded on her knees to be accepted was more than a little irritating, especially her histrionics after being let through. Even though she did a showtune, her voice just wasn't good enough.

I had to laugh when the Staten Island girl said it was a small place and "everyone knows each other". Was she kidding? There are almost 500,000 people on Staten Island

Really liked the kid who spent time in a wheelchair. Also the squeaky teenager, although a little too cutesy.

My first thought about the new judges:
Lopez needs to toughen up and stop thinking about her image
Tyler needs to toughen up and stop thinking about fucking the contestants

Re: American Idol -- Season 10 Auditions Thread -- Wednesday/Thursday on FOX

The minority viewpoint: I've never liked bad auditions and I've never liked unnecessarily mean commentary. I watch AI for one thing -- to see/hear performances I enjoy. It's in vogue to say there is no singing talent on AI, but it's a statement easily proven wrong and undercuts the credibility of the people saying it. Certainly every contestant doesn't deserve to be a star, but there are good singers on the show each season. I'm curious to see if a positive show for people who WANT to hear good performances can hold up in the ratings. Weed out the wannabes, but there's no need to be mean for entertainment value. Keep in mind folks... every bad singer you see on TV has been put through by the production staff for the purpose of looking bad on national TV. It may have some entertainment value, but the more they can focus on good singing performances, the better for me.

Gotta love Steven Tyler...

"You lookin' down boy? I see you lookin' down!" (to Randy Jackson catching him looking at J-Lo's booty!)

"What's with the joo joo bees on your oo oo bees?"

I'm on the side that it felt fresh and new. I liked it, but I do agree that the newbies have to toughen up.

Pretty much where I'm at. It did seem like a lot of singers got through that wouldn't have had a snowball's chance in hell when Simon and Kara were around. At least when Hollywood comes around they'll be forced to cut the chaff.
