Re: The BAFTA nominations

No love for Reznor right after his Golden Globe Win. Kind of weird seeing Tom Hardy in a "rising star" award category.

This looks pretty close to what I expect the Oscar nominations to be. Good seeing Hailee Steinfeld getting recognition for her excellent work in True Grit, I'm still expecting Noomi to get an Academy Award nom too.

It seems likely that Bening will win the Oscar (The Actors Branch has the most voting power for the Academy (they're the largest by 3x) and Bening is chair for the Actors Branch, plus shes due her "lifetime achievement award"), though I expect Portman has a great shot at the BAFTA.

Seriously? You think Noomi will get an Oscar nomination too?? I really hope so. I just think the 5 Best Actress nominations will likely be Annette Bening, Juliane Moore, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman. Out of that list, I don't think Moore deserves a nomination over Rapace. And Bening most definite doesn't deserve to win over Portman.

Re: Hardy. Yeah, very bizarre. He's been acting in British films for several years.

Re: The BAFTA nominations

I can see Julianne Moore or Jennifer Lawrence being left out and Rapace being brought in, Hollywood took serious notice of her (and cast her in several high profile features) because of that role and I don't think it will be forgotten come oscar time.

I think Julianne Moore is a great actress, but I was kind of lukewarm on her performance in TKAA. The same goes for Jennifer Lawrence -- who was impressive in Winter's Bone, but it wasn't a particularly memorable performance for me (which may be a good thing as it was a tough though low key leading role).

Ditto on Bening. I'm telling you, once anyone ever gets around to seeing "Mother and Child", they'll see that was her best performance of 2010. And best in years. She's going to get nominated for the wrong film IMO. I also hated her character in "TKAA". That said, I really hope you hunch on Rapace is correct. That would be incredible.

It's an outside shot, but I wouldn't count it out.

Re: The BAFTA nominations

someone remind how is Toy Story 3 an 'adapted screenplay' ??

love the little dig at Ricky Gervais being no where the building for the ceremony by presenter Jonathan Ross.

I think both Jesse and Andrew Garfield were completely caught off guard by coming up to the stage to accept David Fincher's award.

I'm not sure how or why I missed 'Four Lions' the brief clips were downright hysterical.

Adapted from Characters originally written for Toy Story 1. Toy Story 2 would also have been considered an Adapted Screenplay. The same goes for any sequel.

Awards shows generally consider sequels to be adapted. I guess they consider them to be adapted from the prior films. Edit: as Hardercore said first.
