Letterman's contract runs out August 2012. I believe he'll retire then, as he'll have been doing late night shows for 30 years, just like Carson.

I don't watch the show much, but I think Regis has taken a lot more vacation time and a lighter schedule in the last few years, so they have had plenty of guest hosts. A big crop from which to pick a new host. It depends on who has the best chemistry with the audience and Kelly. Anderson Cooper wouldn't be a bad choice, if he decided to go that way in his career.
