What from your most wanted list has been released?

With releases being announced at a pretty good clip it seems that numerous titles have had their problems; authoring problems like Saving Private Ryan, crappy transfers like Gladiator, then there are the packaging issues and the extras. I just went through my list and realized a pretty good number of titles I've wished for from the introduction of hi-def have been released and I wanted to see how I'm doing compared to how many I still have on the list. [joey]How you doin?[/joey]

So far:

Back To The Future - have only seen 1 but it looked like a nice upgrade
Braveheart - stunning
Con Air - so nice to get rid of that non-anamorphic POS
Greatest Game Ever Played - reference quality disc of a great movie
Honeymoon In Vegas - for $10 I can toss that FF crapfest I had
Independence Day - was worried about losing the extended cut then realized I liked the theatrical cut better
Last Of The Mohicans - Haven't watched it yet
Music Man - looks good even if it was $20
Princess Bride - again, a non-anamorphic version to replace and it looks great
Saving Private Ryan - one of my all time favorite movies looks great in HD
Sound Of Music - the music machine version was the selling feature. Great upgrade from the 5 star.

7 of my top 20 are available (and being enjoyed in my collection). So far, it looks like maybe 4 or so of the remaining 13 are on track for 2011. The rest lean toward relative obscurity and could take a few more years to see release.

Santa Sangre was one I never thought I'd see. Hopefully I'll have a copy next Wednesday....

Most recently, having received the LE set of Battle Royale makes my life feel more complete.

I'm still waiting for Jurassic Park and the original versions of Star Wars. We MAY get Star Wars someday. We did get them on dvd....years later, and they weren't anamorphic. I'd also like Beastmaster, The Black Cauldron, the rest of the Chucky movies, Empire Records (the theatrical cut), and Masters Of The Universe. I know that MOTU isn't the best of movies, but I like it. Also, of course, the original Tron.

At least Jurassic Park looks like a go and Star Wars already has a thread. Once you started collecting, how many of your most wanted have you already gotten?

Most of the David Lynch catalog, in the UK and France. Still really want Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, and The Straight Story (and of course the complete Twin Peaks series). Blue Velvet should be out this year in the US, but I may just import the French disc in February.

I won't be upgrading until they release the unrated version on blu. I find it the superior cut. There is a nice scene that explains why the inmates respect Cameron Poe. It also has a lot of cursing that was inexplicably cut from an already violent R-rated movie.

Boogie Nights
There Will Be Blood
Heat
2001
The Shining
The Thing
Band of Brothers
Zodiac

not as many as i'd like, but I am crossing my fingers that In the Bedroom doesn't take years, and the studio puts it out asap. Kind of doubt it.

Braveheart was #1 and it looks fantastic.

Almost Famous was #2 - I have the UK version(decent quality), waiting for reviews to see if it's worth upgrading to the R1 version.

As for other wants, Jurassic Park and maybe the Crow.

Re: What from your most wanted list has been released?

I've been pretty fortunate as a lot of 'most wanted's were released early on (especially on HD DVD) and the last couple years have seen quite a few get scratched off.
some that stand out are-
A Room With A View
The Searchers
Superman
Alien
Days Of Heaven
Walkabout
Black Narcissus
StarCrash
Moonraker (and most of the other Bonds)
The Deep
The Towering Inferno
Bridge On The River Kwai
Excalibur
Out Of Sight
King Kong ('76)
Phantom Of The Paradise
The Music Man
Mask Of Zorro
Contact
Close Encounters

although just about none are perfect, the ones the usually have given me the most satisfaction have been the lower profile, less popular titles. I'm EXTREMELY happy to have things like KK '76, The Deep, Starcrash, and A Room With A View on the shelf.

The one big absence at this point is Jaws which should be coming soon as well.

Quite a few "most wanted" have already made it to BD (or HD DVD):

Pride and Prejudice (1995) (A&E)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Amélie (I have the Australian release)
The Sound of Music
Moulin Rouge
Monsters, Inc.
The Mask of Zorro
The Thomas Crown Affair
(1999)
The Princess Bride
Firefly
Serenity
Notting Hill

Many other titles I wanted to upgrade have also been released in High Def, although not all of them have made it to prices low enough for me to purchase yet:

The Seven Samurai
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Gladiator
For Your Eyes Only
Live and Let Die
Star Trek VIII: First Contact
Die Hard
Master and Commander
The Terminator
Pale Rider

Pirates of the Caribbean movies
First Blood
The Karate Kid (1984)
Back to the Future
Romancing the Stone
Twister
Superman: The Movie
Galaxy Quest
The Natural

Batman (1989)
X-Men movies

Nevertheless, there are still lots of titles on my want list, some of them so obscure that it is very unlikely they will ever be released on Blu-ray Disc.

I wouldn't buy 'em for a dollar, so I guess I shouldn't wonder, but if they were on my to-buy list, it sure wouldn't be the pricing holding me back.

I already have them. Only three of the titles in my second list I have yet to purchase. November and December were quite good for price drops on catalog releases.

Another two titles about to release that I haven't purchased yet are American Graffiti and The Incredibles. There may be others I just can't think of. Checking my spreadsheet for already purchased BDs is easier.

Given where we were four years ago, I've been fairly pleased with the number of catalog titles that have made it to BD. But a lot of older stuff just isn't likely to ever make it.
