Captain Planet And The Planeteers: Season One (04/19/11)

This particular show was one which came up (as it had on previous chats), and at the time Warner replied this way: "we're evaluating Captain Planet. We want the power to be YOURS".
And Warner's making it happen, too...but not by themselves. Heroism can take teamwork, and Warner has apparently teamed up with Shout! Factory...at least according to Amazon.com's new pre-order listing for Captain Planet and the Planeteers - Season 1 on DVD! Yes, Amazon shows that Shout! will release the first season set as a 4-disc set on April 19th (just in time for Earth Day), at a cost of $29.93 SRP (but you can lock in your copy at a discount right away with an advance order).
Is this believable? Well, Shout! is the one studio Warner has previously licensed their TV properties out to (Max Headroom and The Norm Show), and Shout! is also known for doing a great job with classic animated shows. We don't have anything official from either studio (Shout! or Warner), however, so we suppose there could be a mistake at Amazon. We'll trust it, though, until and unless we hear otherwise! Stay tuned for updates and package art. In the meantime, the power is yours!

I still remember every word to the theme song from when I was kid. Didn't really care for the show that much, just liked the theme song.

I used to watch the show in the mornings before school. I doubt it holds up, but I don't care. My nostalgia will prevail.

I don't share you guys' enthusiasm for Captain Planet. I didn't think anyone actually liked it unironically.
Why on earth did Shout license THIS from Warner? Were Tiny Toons, Animaniacs and Beetlejuice not up for grabs? Was Captain Planet's DVD license dirt-cheap? Are they secret eco-nuts?

Nice! I'm also happy to find out that my favorite episodes in the entire series are in this season.

It's probable that this was a show Warner didn't mind licensing out, as it doesn't tie in with any of their other strongly-branded shows (Freakazoid, Animaniacs, et al), nor does it build on existing WB properties (Tiny Toons, Beetlejuice, and so on). It's just Ted Turner's save-the-world show.

No one had it, so ordered from Amazon. Glad I did though since it was only $18.99 instead of $24.99!

I received mine yesterday. I really hate these cardboard cases that you just slide the discs into. Why is it so hard to have dedicated disc holders in your packaging? I try to keep my DVDs free of scatches and it's impossible when you have this crappy eco packaging.

I can understand people's frustrations with the packaging but it was done to go with the themes that are presented in Captain Planet which I thought was a pretty cool tie in. It's certainly not the ideal casing for discs but this clearly isn't a normal procedure for Shout! Factory so I wouldn't worry about seeing more of these cases from them in the future on non-Captain Planet related items.

It's Captain Planet. Do you really expect them to not use the crappiest packaging on earth?
I didn't but now I know what the crappiest dvd packaging looks like.

If the show were good they could make the packaging as big, plastic, and wasteful as they wanted, but they know that Gen Y'ers are going to watch two episodes and throw it away, so that packaging had better be bio-degradable. If Criterion packaged their dvds in depleted uranium you wouldn't need to be worried about landfills overflowing with toxic waste because no one throws away Criterion discs. This release is doomed to the landfill, completely undermining what the show was all about.
How can anyone defend this show? I was about 11-13 when this show was new and even I could smell the indoctrination/propaganda. It's this UN international coalition punishing liter bugs produced by Ted Turner. Did he get a tax deduction for making this thing or something?
Edit: Just looking at Wiki this thing did have an incredible cast, I'll give them that. Dean Stockwell, Martin Sheen, Sting, Ratzenberger, David Warner, Malcolm McDowell, Frank Welker, James Coburn, and of course "Mr. 9/11 Was an Inside Job" Ed Asner.
