Avril Lavigne "Goodbye Lullaby" out 3/8/10 w new single 'what the hell"
I'm very currious to see how the album plays out, especially if its true about there being no real "pop tunes" outside of the main single
1. "Black Star"
2. "What the Hell"
3. "Push"
4. "Wish You Were Here"
5. "Smile"
6. "Stop Standing There"
7. "I Love You"
8. "Everybody Hurts"
9. "Not Enough"
10. "4 Real"
11. "Darlin"
12. "Remember When"
13. "Goodbye"
14. "Alice"
Only version of 'What the Hell" i could find on youtube

Avril Lavigne is taking extra advantage of her appearance during "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest" this year. She'll be premiering "What the Hell," her first single from new album "Goodbye Lullaby," now with a confirmed release date.
"Goodbye," the Canadian songwriter's long-awaited fourth studio set, will drop on March 8 via RCA. She collaborated with songwriters like Max Martin, Evan Taubenfeld, Butch Walker and -- somewhat surprisingly -- her now-ex-husband Deryck Whibley. The Sum 41 guitarist had contributed to Lavigne's last album "The Best Damn Thing" in 2007, prior to the split in 2009.
Lavigne wrote last month that this album took its time hitting shelves due to disputes with the label, over crafting hits. "What the Hell" seems to be the compromise.
"Not only is this the most meaningful and special record I have written, it is sincere, honest and close to my heart. But for the first time I experienced a bunch of bureaucratic BS. People do their best work when they are doing what they want, love and is natural for them, not when you are forcing them to be something that they are not," she said. “['What the Hell'] is the least personal song to me off this album. It’s a fun and funny anthem. It has a broad message about personal freedom. It is the most pop track on the record.”

No pop tunes is bad since isn't that what her fans want songs like "Hot?"

Wow, that lead-off single sucks bad. If that's "the most pop track on the record", she may have just bulldozed her career...unless the other tracks are damned good, and/or she has some people pushing her record hard enough.
I like Avril well enough; my post is not intended as a threadcrap here. I just think that the new song sounds awful.
Then again, I'm not quite in her main fan demographic, eh?

The way she's fighting her label for artistic independence, I'm expecting a Damn the Torpedoes or Darkness on the Edge of Town.

Sounds a lot like what Kelly Clarkson did a few years back with her third album, but without any promotion and no singles, she went from playing stadiums to small venues.

^That record was pretty awful IMO - her record company demanded 'return to form' after that record was much better. I'm sure this will sound like every other Avril album, just slightly less teeny bopper lyrics, which the record company was looking for...but we'll see. I'm hoping it will be good.

yes, that song was pretty damn bad.
I do enjoy some of her slower songs in the past.
I'll be interested to find out if track No. 7 is an actual cover of
REM's "Everybody Hurts."

she needs to return to stealing 70s power pop songs and then claiming she never heard of them

I kinda like the song. It'll be interesting to hear what the rest of the album is like.

Saying "the most pop track" doesn't necessarily mean the same as "the only commercial track". She could be referring to 'pop' meaning its use of electronic, dancey beats and its production style... which would make sense if she's leaning toward a more 'rock' sound for the rest of the album.

I suppose they have Taylor Swift now. My wife was listening to her newest CD and the first thing I thought was "This doesn't sound country" and then I couldn't get it out of my head how much it sounded like an Avril album.

I appreciated quality of the music between the 30 and 35 second point of this video.

I can't be the only one who hopes that there ends up being a explicit version of 'what the hell' changing it to 'what the fuck' right?
Oh and this is prob gonna get a parental advisory as there is def some swearing on the album (and this reminds me much more of 'let go'), or we could get the same thing as 'the best damn thing' album, where the only way to get the explicit version was to get the version with the bonus dvd (which Goodbye Lullaby has)

Are you sure she swears? I certainly don't want a clean version.

She's trying so hard to keep her demographic that she'll dress up and act like a teenager even though she's 26. Sad.
And that's not really a music video, it's a Sony advertisement. They didn't even try to make it less conspicuous.

I recorded a few videos at her concert 3 years ago, and one of the videos went mini-viral for a couple obvious reasons:
