Castle -- "Nikki Heat" -- 1/03/11

Episode 3.11 - Nikki Heat - Promotional Photos

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Castle's novel "Heat Wave" is being turned into a movie, and the Hollywood hottie cast as the movie's lead shows up at Beckett's invitation to better understand the character she's going to play. Laura Prepon guest stars as actress Natalie Rhodes. As our threesome investigates the murder of a high-class matchmaker, Natalie goes to extremes in the name of "character research," transforming herself into the spitting image of Beckett -- much to Castle's delight and Beckett's dismay. Also in the episode, Melody Thomas Scott ("Young & the Restless") and Thomas Calabro ("Melrose Place") guest star.

Episode 11 of 24

Written by David Grae
Directed by Jeff Bleckner

Unrelated to Castle, I just watched Stana Katic on the 3rd Librarian TV movie that stars Noah Wylie, which aired during Christmas on TNT. She had an awful French accent and her hair was Castle season 1 short. Really corny Indiana Jones rip-off.

On a related note, I would love to go down on her!

Had to google "Laura Prepon" to find out who the heck she is.

I guess you never watched That 70's Show. She was recently on October Road and guest starred on House. Odd choice to have her play Nikki Heat since she looks nothing like Stana.

I watched That 70's Show back when it originally aired and hated it. I guess she failed to make much of an impression. And I can't stand House so that explains why I hadn't seen her there either. I have no idea what October Road is.

But, yeah, she looks nothing like Stana Katic but I think that's the point. Kinda like when books get adapted to movies and oftentimes actors get cast that neither look the part nor make any attempt to pattern their appearance on that of the character.

Solid episode but the ending felt kinda off. I get that they tried to go out on a high note with the proposal but it felt as if there should have been another scene after that. It was as if the ending was somehow oddly abrupt.

Loved this episode! I was laughing out loud when Natalie Rhodes came out dressed just like Beckett and Castle started to get all flustered. I also liked all the digs they got in on Castle not being as big a celebrity as Rhodes. Prepon did a great job--hopefully we'll see her in this role again some day.

One of the best episodes of the series IMO. I still don't care for the murder of the week, but the character stuff was ON. Prepon was great and I loved seeing her dolled up like Beckett - hilarious.

I thought the episode was great and I'm glad they immediately ended Beckett's presumption after seeing Castle kiss Natalie in the elevator....didn't want the rest of the episode to have Beckett mad at Castle.

Re: Castle -- "Nikki Heat" -- 1/03/11

I watched it again last night.

I really liked how at first Castle was the one who had a problem with Natalie but Beckett liked her, and then throughout the show they gradually "switched sides" until Beckett was really bothered by her and Castle was infatuated with her.

I also liked how Natalie just laid out the relationship between Beckett and Castle in a no-nonsense manner. "It's obvious you're really into him..."

I missed something obvious the first time I watched but caught it this time: When Natalie talks down the guy with the gun at the end, she is using the dialogue from her audition that Castle was watching at the beginning of the episode.

I knew Prepon from October Road and wouldn't have picked her for this role, but it worked.

Prepon does look that good as a blonde. Brunett/redhead suits her much better.

Um, yeah. The dialogue that Castle was also mercilessly slamming in the opening as unbelievable as a deterrent in that situation.

Doesn't Castle acknowledge his mistake by saying "That dialog isn't so bad after all" (paraphrased)? Clever writing.

Fun ep. Barely recognized Laura Prepon as a blonde. Does she smoke like a chimney or something? Seems her voice is a bit deeper than that of the average female, and from her time on That 70s Show.

He says something along the lines of "I guess it wasn't such a hacky line afterall".
