Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/12/09/uncover-the-truth-in-uncharted-3/)

<img src="http://i.imgur.com/kXXap.jpg"/>

UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception features the return of famed fortune hunter Nathan Drake and follows him through a gripping, action-packed storyline that will take you all over the world. In his search for the fabled “Atlantis of the Sands,” Nathan Drake and longtime friend and mentor Victor Sullivan set off on a daring trek into the heart of the Arabian Desert. But when terrible secrets of this lost city are uncovered, their journey becomes a desperate bid for survival that will force Drake to confront his deepest fears.
Throughout UNCHARTED 3, you’ll be taken to spectacular new locations around the globe, that will showcase all of the work we’ve taken on to take acclaimed physics, particle and visual effects to a new level.

Competitive and co-op multiplayer will return as a key ingredient to the UNCHARTED 3 package, where all of the new features we have planned will combine with our signature single-player cinematic gameplay to create a unique action-adventure multiplayer experience that can only be found in the UNCHARTED universe.

Oh, and there’s one more thing – UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception fully supports high-resolution Stereoscopic 3D.
We’re looking forward to exploring it all with you in the months to come. Be sure to hit up your local newsstand tomorrow and pick up a copy of the December 17 issue of Entertainment Weekly – you’ll find a ton of additional details on UNCHARTED 3 and the new art shown above in glorious, full color print. Enjoy!

News so good, it rated two near-simultaneous threads.

That is a phenomenally lame teaser trailer.

I didn't mind the yetis as much as the Nazi zombie things in the first game. It just felt shoe horned and unnecessary.

#2 was constantly engaging despite occasionally lackluster gameplay, if they did manage to figure out to make the game more of an actual game and keep the excellent narrative they'd really be onto something.

Trailer will be shown at VGA.

Game will be demoed on Jimmy Fallon on Monday.

This and Last Guardian will make the 2011 holidays perhaps the best ever?

Raul3

That teaser is just the beginning of the full trailer that will be shown this Saturday in the VGAs.

According to Amazon release date is December 1, 2011. So I guess they are trying to avoid Call of Duty.

And I expect the game to continue the trend from Uncharted 2. Cinematic, not that hard (hand holding?). Just more fine tunning of those elements.

The code I got is similar to the code a lot of people are getting. It's only for the Avatar though. Here it is for others to enjoy: ANAK-R6N9-5F56

If anyone has the theme code that they have used (just in case it's one-time use only) would you mind posting it?

You can also apparently go here http://www.unchartedthegame.com/ watch the trailer, sign up for updates, and they'll send you a theme code, but I have yet to receive one.

Jason Statham is a character in Uncharted 3?

I cannot wait 'til this game comes out. I cant quite figure out what is my favourite series, out of Uncharted and God of War.

Uncharted 3 and L.A Noire are going to be huge and competing for GOTY, IMO. I'll probably only buy those two this year because everything else will probably be a giant letdown anyway. :D

Uncharted 3 Multiplayer - Environmental Features Of The Maps

The Chateau is one of two maps that will be available in the multiplayer beta, the other being The Airstrip. An arena style map, The Chateau allows players to explore the interior and surroundings of the chateau. The map is very vertical and includes ziplines, a new interactive feature for the series. As the match progresses, new portions of the chateau will be lit and burn during the match.

The Airstrip is a two-part map, in which the location and map layout change during the match. The first part of the match takes place on a large cargo plane being chased by trucks. Here, players can jump from truck to truck, and even board the cargo plane itself. After the plane takes off, the location changes to the airstrip hangar, for a more traditional multiplayer setting and layout. In the second half of the match, fighter planes will come in for a 'strafing run'. Players caught in the plane's firing range will be killed.

When does the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta start?
If you have the voucher from Infamous 2 or a PlayStation Plus subscription, June 28th. If you're what I like to call a "normie," July 4th.

When does the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta end?
July 13th.

What's the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta level cap?
Level 25, bro.

What modes are included in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
There are nine modes. Team Deathmatch (duh), 3-Team Deathmatch (three teams of two face off), Team Objective (complete the assigned goals), Free For All (kill everyone), Plunder (capture the treasure), High Stakes (gamble with your XP and cash), and three co-op modes I can't tell you about yet but swear I will blow them out this week.

Which maps are in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
There's an airfield one and a French chateau. Both are multi-level with plenty to climb. They each pack dynamic events to keep the matches lively like attacking planes and collapsing structures. Check out our Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta map flythroughs to see the arenas.

What Uncharted 3 power plays are in the beta?
As touched on in the multiplayer reveal, Uncharted 3 packs power plays. These are one-minute events that'll occur in blowouts to give the losing team a fighting chance (although the winning team can benefit, too). The Uncharted 3 multiplayer packs four Power Plays.

Marked Man - A person on the winning team is marked, and the losing team gets 3 points if they kill him. Meanwhile, the winning team gets double cash for each kill and a special medal if the Marked Man doesn't die.
Cursed - The winning team sees all characters as skeletons and friendly fire is turned on. Each time the losing team gets a kill or the winning team kills one of its own, the losing team gets two points. Meanwhile, the winning team gets double cash for each member of the losing team killed.
Exposed - The winning team's location is revealed to the losing team. The winning team gets double cash for each losing team member killed.
Double Damage - Losing team inflicts double damage. Winning team earns double cash for each kill.

What boosters are available in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
Boosters -- equipable abilities that affect gameplay -- are back in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, but they've been revamped. When you choose one of these abilities and use it, you earn experience points for it. So, you're leveling up your profile and your abilities individually when you play the game. The Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta is going to feature eight boosters spread over two slots.

Booster Slot 1 Options

Come Here - See the opponent that killed you on your radar until he or she dies.
Retaliation - Spawn with the Power Weapon you were killed by.
Cloaked - Opponents won't see you on the radar and you can't be heard.
Weapon Expert - Gives you the ability to add additional mods to you weapons.
Booster Slot 2 Options

Back in the Saddle - Reduces your respawn time.
Bargain - Decreases the cost of Medal Kickbacks. (Special powers you set before the game and have to earn in a match.)
Power Hunter - See the location of Power Weapons.
Daredevil - When you taunt over a defeated opponent, you get extra ammo.

What Medal Kickbacks are in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
Before you start a match, you decide which Medal Kickback you want to use. When you're out there on the battlefield and start earning medals, you start building toward your kickback. Get the amount of medals needed to use the kickback, and you can pull off the uber-maneuver.

Smoke Bomb - You vanish in a puff of smoke.
Speedy G - You get a speed boost.
RPG!!! - You instantly spawn an RPG.
Cluster Bomb - One grenade explodes into multiple grenades.
What guns are in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
AK-47, G-Mal and the Dragon Sniper round out the long guns. Pistols are also included, and the above Medal Kickback confirms RPGs.

What Mods are in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
For your long guns, there are two -- clip size and Call Out (which shows the location of enemies). For the pistols, you can increase the total amount of ammo and the rate of fire for the Arm Micro.

What characters are in the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta?
If you choose to be a hero, you can be Nathan Drake, Sully or a treasure hunter. If you're going to be a villain, you're a pirate. However, remember that you can customize the hell out of these characters. Shirts, hats, sunglasses, and more will help you make your avatar your own.

Has anyone seen that "I am Jack McGarrett" trailer for Hawaii 5-O (I often see it on comcast on demand after my program has ended)? It has numerous moments that look like a live-action Uncharted. I have failed to find an online version to link to, though. :(

Well the statue might be kind of cool, but the rest of the stuff sounds like junk.

A one-of-akind Sideshow Collectibles Nathan Drake Statue, replicas of Nathan Drake's belt buckle and ring with necklace strap, and an exclusive Steelbook game case, all housed in a stylish "Travelling Chest."

I screwed around with the multi beta yesterday. I thought the aiming controls were clunky and the enhanced verticality of the maps cumbersome. While I understand the complaints of climbing like you're stuck to flypaper... the flip side of this is that you've got to be allowed to complete regular actions without extreme frustration.

That said there are some interesting features on the maps that make it slightly different than your average MP mode. Just fix some of the controls.

For those interested, playing the beta nets you some day one bonuses. Just downloading and playing nets you an avatar reward. Complete 10 matches of each competitive mode gets you Exclusive Beta Decal Pack 1. Complete 5 matches in every Co-op mode gets you Exclusive Beta Decal Pack 2. Complete 4 treasure sets and get the Treasure Hunter's starter pack. and then reach level 25 and get bonus cash on day one. I assume these are in addition to importing a platinum save and all that.

Also, landing today is a new co-op map/mode.

Discostu, what do you do for the game?

It'll be a day one purchase for me but the multiplayer left me cold. But it's not that there's anything wrong with it. It's just not my cup of tea.

For a while I was playing the hell outta the MP in UC2 but then suddenly stopped. Just lost interest and haven't looked back. UC3's MP, though improved from that of UC2, did nothing to entice me. I guess I'm more of a SP guy.

I played the MP beta of the second one and it wasn't my cup of tea, I'm basically just Halo and Gears in MP, so I never played MP when the game was released. I downloaded the beta for this game too but have never been in the mood to try it. I think I won't play it. I may try it when retail is released.

Play Uncharted 3 early at select AMC Theatres

Next month, Uncharted fans are getting a cool opportunity to play the latest installment -- in 3D, no less -- before the rest of us at select AMC Theatres. The scheduled festivities include multiplayer tournaments, Sony giveaways, and the main event, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception on the big screen.

Perhaps best of all, you can score a copy of the game before it officially launches on November 1. General admission is $25 (yikes), but for $60, you'll get a premium pass which includes Uncharted 3 being sent to your home on October 25.

Might be worth attending if you're really into the series and will be in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., New York City, or Dallas between October 18-20.

FWIW, at Subway the stickers that wrap their sandwiches also have game codes. They have a $7.50 Meal Deal with a footlong, 30 oz drink and chips that should yield two codes. Codes can be used for not only the multiplayer experience (which I tried last night and thought was really solid -- though I'm absolutely terrible at it), but also for an Uncharted 3 Dynamic Theme, an exclusive skin (Drake dressed in Subway-colored clothing), an exclusive multiplayer weapon (Eat Healthy!, Get Weapon!), a "Cash Bonus" (for upgrading your character and stuff -- didn't get that yet, not sure how much virtual cash they give), or a hideous Subway Cup Home costume (shudder). Then of course, there's an actual giveaway like with previous Subway + Playstation contests after you claim your virtual Uncharted 3 prize, but I haven't won in three attempts yet.

Apparently all the Subways get stickers, they just don't use them. I've been reading reports of people asking for the stickers and getting 5 of them, since they're so unused. I'm going to try that next time.

It turns out that the codes are on packages of Sun Chips that I get for free in my cafeteria. Unfortunately, the only instant DLC prize I could actually use (In-game cash bonus) has been pulled before I could even use it once. Also the multiplayer experience is only offered with the cup codes. As a result, I should be able to post the remaining DLC prizes codes here for dynamic themes, the exclusive weapon, Subway-themed Drake skin or (shudder) Home costume of a giant Subway cup. If anyone wants one, post here and I'll try to PM you a code in the next few days (I only get to enter three codes a day and don't want to be seen hauling armfuls of Sun Chips out of the cafeteria anyway).

Well that does explain why he gets his ass handed to him in what looks to be the only bit of gameplay footage not taken from one of the trailers.

Although certainly weathered, I wouldn't call him frail. Look at my grampa (who's 83) if you wanna see frail. :(

I think if Indy 5 does happen, though he might have to share action duties with a sidkick, will still focus on him as the protagonist. The bit where he snatched the hat from Mutt at the end of Indy 4 was a clear sign that the kid wasn't ready to step in his shoes (err hat) just yet.

Is there anything more douchey than old-man diamond earring stud?

Nope. But there was no diamond. It's just a metal stud.

He was clearly acting. But it was far from a bad performance. The prop department just screwed up by not having a mock controller rigged with a light.

I can't say it was good PR... I actually felt a little embarassed for Harrison.

I didn't feel embrassed for him but did wish that instead they had cast him as a pivotal character in the game (similar to the casting of René Auberjonois in the last game). That would have been a better PR stunt.

Lol, yeah. We have been laughing about the perfect scores all day at work. Of course it's going to get 9's and 10's though. I still stand by my 7/10 score. The game is boring to play with minimal action, and just graphically lacking. Batman didn't even get a 10 from IGN...sad.

Honestly I can't imagine this game being a 7/10. Everything I've seen about it begs to differ. I hope you weren't being too hard on it just to be different like that one movie critic who only likes movies panned by everyone and hates movies that everyone loves :P

Decker

I respect your right to have a contrarian position, but to me 7's are just better than mediocre and reading the available reviews, I have a hard time believing this game won't at least really impress me intermittently and provide an entertaining diversion. In other words, I'm more inclined to believe the higher scores.

And as much as I like a lot about Batman AC, it's not a perfect game by any means and doesn't deserve a perfect score. This might not either, of course, but regardless IGN was about right giving Batman AC a 9, IMO.

It's by no means bad, but a "masterpiece" is insanity. I'm sure you will all enjoy it though, and I am officially done talking about my thoughts in this thread.

It's cool man. Like Decker I definitely respect your opinion, but reviews can have a lot of things that go into the. I personally felt the first 2 were masterpieces so likely if they didn't change much i will feel the same. Maybe you didn't feel the others were, so if it were the same then this wouldn't be either and again that's just a matter of opinion and the person. No one can tell you that you liked something better than you did and that is awesome

I also agree with decker. Batman deserved a 9 not a 10. The game was great, but it didn't have the same feeling as when you first played AA and it was pretty much the best superhero game ever made at that point. It had it's flaws and UC3 may very well also. Either way i'm sure I will enjoy it immensely :)

I loved uncharted 2! :)

Sorry if that came out as if I was accusing you of being some kind of uncharted hater, that wasn't my intention

The good thing about games and movies (or pretty much any media) is that they can mean very different things to everyone, and as such everyone may see it differently. We all have a guilty pleasure movie or game that no one liked, but we still loved. My comment was just to state that we don't know why you reviewed it the way you did because that was how you felt and the next 10 people may feel the same way or not, that is the beauty of games and why I love them so much.

I guess what I'm saying is that there is probably at least 1 person out there who likes Daiktana who isn't Romero, and that doesn't make them wrong, it just means that they just have a differing opinion which is great. Now whether they admit that they liked the game in public is a different story. :P

Look, I don't mean to denigrate anyone's opinion and sincerely hope that discostu will come back to this thread and elaborate on what his issues were with the game once the rest of us get to try it out a bit and formulate our own opinions on it, but yeah, I have a hard time imagining that all seventy of these playtesters are so enlightened that they universally see these glaring faults that somehow 35 separate professional reviewers have failed to notice in their universal praise and aggregate Metacritc score of 94 (http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/uncharted-3-drakes-deception/critic-reviews).

I've always had issues with the Uncharted gameplay, it's just stiff, linear, and downright automated in places. However I overlook those issues because of the atmosphere, environments, character and story. That said realistically, the game series has always been right around an 8 out of 10, the puzzles are too easy, the gunplay isn't particularly exciting, and the unnatural flow from gameplay to the scripted events... yet it's still one of the best game franchises of this gen.

Puzzles are slightly harder this time (not saying much).

Gunplay is still very average (possibly worse since it has never been improved though the new hand to hand combat is better--similar to but not as polished as Batman).

The transitions between gameplay and scripted events are better this time, but the second half of the game is not as good as the first half so far.

Raul3
10-28-11, 01:12 PM
One thing I've criticized in the previous games, specially in the second one, that they extend the ending too much. You think you are almost done and they add a new mission/stop that doesn't really fit. The game can be really solid at ~6 hours, but at ~8 hrs becomes too repetitive at the end.

I really hope they improved in that for this release.

Totally agree. Can't believe this review is considered "controversial" - an 8.0 seems like a decent score to me. His big complaints seem to be that the game plays like an Uncharted game, which is sort of ridiculous. I guess I can see what he's complaining about, but it's a little silly -- sort of like knocking MvC3 in a review for not being able to stealthily sneak by an opponent instead of fighting him. The games are what they are and I don't really want to have the mold broken, even if that means limiting my freedom somewhat.

Just another Uncharted game. Though a franchise, it's not a series. You can play them in any order. Also, there's a new Uncharted game (The Golden Abyss) coming to the PS Vita.

That said, many assume it's the last Uncharted release from Naughty dog since that was their approach to their other IP's (Jak & Daxter, and Crash Bandicoot). They would do three games and let someone else take over the IP.

My fastest speed run time was 3hr 10min on Very Easy. If you take your time and collect every treasure, it takes about 4hr 30min. Crushing takes a bit longer, and I was able to platinum the game in just over 9hr once. Movies do not count towards the game time statistic.

I enjoyed the heck outta this yesterday. Had to force myself to stop at chapter 8. I want this to last a while longer. I love how the exploration and puzzles have been expanded since the last game. You still have Nate's journal to help you along but now it doesn't outright spell out the answers (which makes the puzzles far more enjoyable).

I have to disagree with discostu1337's claim that the graphics aren't great. They are much improved over those of UC2 (which were already great). Even though the chateau is beautiful, I was already floored by the flashback sequence. The only thing I feel looks poor are the spiders.

I'm liking the more deliberate pace of this game as well. It makes the shootouts stand out more for me. Though I got an unintentional laugh from the fact that all those henchment kept pouring in to fight Nate in Sully instead of fleeing the blazing chateau.

BTW, if you got yourself a great sound system, be sure to switch the dynamic range to "maximum" (and don't freak out when the BGM dips in volume just a tad). You'll be amazed by how nuanced the soundmix for this game is.

I played up until the middle or so of Chapter 7. According to the game, it took me 2:35 hours. There are 22 chapters in the game, so I guess it should take me around 8 hours in Normal.

I got stuck in 2 puzzles, until they gave me the answer. :(

I'm finding the game a little bit below Uncharted 2. Uncharted 2 first chapters were EPIC. Graphics were amazing. Up until now, it feels just like another Uncharted game, nothing new, nothing better than its predecessors, nothing worse either. I'm having a hard time trying to adapt to the camera, the usual, standard, Uncharted camera that some people don't like. I usually adapt fast, for some reason it's taking me more time now.

I'm enjoying the game, I could play all day until I'm done. But I think I will continue tomorrow or over the weekend.

Beat the game today on Normal. Loved it, but Uncharted is one of my favorite video game franchises so I guess I'm a bit biased.

This one actually felt a bit harder than Uncharted 2, especially when it came to fighting the bad guys; they felt less predictable, more agile, and as though they were better shots. I think it made the game more difficult, but also a lot more fun. The addition of being able to return-throw grenades and melee attack enemies was great as well.

I'll spoiler the rest of my comments, just in case.

It was nice to see all of the main characters back; and I liked the addition of Charlie as well.

I liked the part where you were chasing the jeeps on horseback. It took a great sequence from Uncharted 2 and put a different spin on it.

I appreciated them giving us some truly new game modes as well, like chasing someone through the streets and the hallucinations. And the parts where you had to run from something or were racing somewhere were well done as well.

It didn't seem like there were as many puzzles this time around, but when there were they usually felt harder than the puzzles from the other games.

I think the graphics were great. I didn't ever really notice where backgrounds weren't fleshed out, except maybe in the desert. Still, the animation of water and fire was incredible; I don't think I've ever seen a video game do it better.

Now for some complaints:

I wish the fighting on the plane had been a little bit longer.

I like the ending in terms of plot, but I felt as though there was never an actual standoff at the end. I guess it was nice that they switched it up a bit from the first two, but I felt like there should've been a little something more toward the end.

The spiders were interesting, but didn't really pack the same punch as the monsters from the previous two games.

I didn't notice any major glitches and I never had to restart the game at any point. The only thing I noticed was once Drake glitched when climbing over a wall and one enemy toward the end levitated for a moment. Other than those, no problems on my first play through.

I did, however, have to tweak the aiming sensitivity. For the first few shootouts I felt like the controls were lagging and I wasn't able to aim quick enough to kill enemies. Once I changed the sensitivity though it was much better.

Like I said, I think it was a great game and it definitely lived up to the hype for me. If you liked Uncharted and Uncharted 2, then chances are you'll feel the same way I did about this game; it doesn't necessarily break any new ground, but it does what Uncharted does best. I can say I had more fun playing through this one than Arkham City, even though I really did like Arkham City a lot. But I think that's just because I prefer the cinematic nature of Uncharted.

Ok, so this is going to sound negative, but I can't help myself. I am only complaining because when a game gets so many perfect scores it always puts me off a bit. I felt the same way when GTA4 came out to all those 10's.

I am half-way through the game...It really is a great game, though as some said slow to start. As always the scale of the platforming, and the movie-like presentation really are impressive....

Problems...

First is the gunplay. I can't put my finger on it but it just seems off. I have always thought the Uncharted games weakest element has been the shooting, and that continues with this game.

Platforming...this has always been mixed for me...on one hand it is amazing the scale of it, on the other it feels more like an interactive cut-scene than a game...but I do love it...the problem is the clipping and poor animation of your character. Assassins Creed smokes this game on this point. Your character clips through environments, chugs awkwardly off walls your were not suppose to jump on...and just looks off at times.

Graphics. This is the games strongest area, but I am not as impressed as I was with 2. First there seems to be a LOT more jaggies. Second, the character models are not as impressive as they once were...this has more to do with how other games have stepped up, not that Uncharted 3 has stepped back..Texture work for little things is still impressive (as opposed to Rage which had better looking backgrounds, more open and a higher frame-rate, but ugly little things like phones or boxes)....the most impressive thing about the Uncharted games though has always been the color...it looks like a painting...one thing I did note...some of the cut-scenes, which I always thought were done with the game engine, are of a lower quality than the actual game. I noticed this a lot with the beginning of Chateau...that level looked only average during the opening, and when you take over...beautiful....it is not as bad as Gears 3...but its there..

This is a fun game, and I can't wait to finish it tonight, but it is FAR from perfect...

this is not a 10 game by any means. it's not even a 9 game. i like the uncharted series, but the only thing spectacular about this game is the graphics. everything else is average, at best.

Yeah, the platforming part is really getting old. Even Batman feels better now.

After so many years of Assassin's Creed games there's no excuse, all platforming in games should be like that, should FEEL like that.

I'm about halfway through it right now, and share some of the aforementioned impressions of it so far. Specifically, that it's an overall good game, but not the world-rocking experience that UC2 was... or at least, doesn't make the quantum leap that UC2 did from UC1.

Some specific criticisms from me so far, some of which other posters have also hinted at:

1) Both player and aiming control is definitely wonky. I haven't tried to adjust aiming sensitivity, so that may fix that. But I've even had trouble with just moving Drake around with any precision, which is quite a hassle with some of the puzzles. Also, when the action picks up during the fight sequences, I often find myself skittering around, rather than smoothly transitioning from cover spot to cover spot.

2) The new "over-aggressiveness" of the enemies seems to me to reduce the AI of the game. I understand this was probably done to make the fights more urgent/exciting, rather than the incessant shoot-from-cover approach that kind of made the first game tedious in spots, and also to allow more melee fights. But the result in practice is that the enemies are constantly running right into me, even when I'm firing directly at them from behind cover, which doesn't seem very realistic at all, especially for a game series that has so far been succeeding at getting those kind of details correct.

3) As for the melee fighting, while I enjoy that they added more of it, it does seem to be causing me some "cheap" deaths. Specifically, when you break into a fist fight with an enemy during a gunfight, the other enemies keep shooting at you. I know that probably happened in the previous games, too, but in those games, it usually only took a few punches to take out an enemy, so no real damage amassed from the shooters. In UC3, a melee fight can go on for half a minute or more, which at times has meant also getting shot four or five times, in addition to any damage you take from the melee-ing. So I've been taken out at least a few times because of that, which seems cheap to me, since you can't easily break away from the melee to take cover, and you often can't use your own gun to end the fight quickly and get out of gun fire range.

4) The enemy's grenades seem to have a nasty habit of landing at a dead stop near you without any kind of momentum, no matter where you are standing. I have had grenades thrown at me on the edge of precipices, that instead of sailing over the edge (as they naturally would in reality), seem to be magnetically attracted to me. Again, a weird design flaw that didn't seem to exist in the previous games.

5) Overall, there do seem to be several graphical glitches in animation and presentation that seem to have made it past QC. I don't think most are all that big a deal, but a little surprising to me given the high degree of QC on the previous two games (especially UC2).

In any case, I'm a big time fan of the UC games and I'm sure that I will still really enjoy this one by the time I'm done with it. I guess when you set the bar so high as UC2, it does become difficult to out-do yourself with each new game in a franchise, so some hard core fans are bound to be at least a little disappointed at some point. Not that I'm really disappointed, per se, but finding room for quibbling.

I was going to talk about that as well...and I agree with you...it actually has made some parts easier as they just rush you like idiots..you can "trick" the game into exploiting this by turning your back on purpose to some enemies...even though the should NOT know you are not facing that way, the game will make them rush you hoping to take you by surprise...just turn your back...count a few seconds...turn around and tada!!!! 2 or 3 guys running toward you out in the open easy kills...

I haven't played UC3 yet, but I died plenty of times in UC2 from getting shot while engaged in a melee. I only played the game on Hard and Crushing though, so don't know what level you play at.

I just finished it today on Hard

I love the UC games and I was a bit disappointed in this. The scenes that were just shit blowing up everywhere and you have to escape were awesome, but the gun play and as mentioned the getting shot while meleeing was annoying. I hated when the big guys that take like 40 hits and 5 triangle counters to kill come at you with like 12 guys around, they always kill you while you are killing him.

Also you better hope you aren't near any enemies if a sniper has a bead on you in the open. You are supposed to hit O to roll so they lose their target, but if there is someone close you just keep grabbing them instead of rolling, by the time you realize that you were too close and turn to run you are dead. This game did not impress me nearly as much as 2 did, it was a great game mind you from a balls to the wall action standpoint, and a story standpoint, but everything else was kind of meh.

Spoiler for anyone who has finished it or is past chapter 18 or so

And really, i could have done without the 30 minutes of slowly walking across the desert while it went from day, to night, to day, to night, to day again. Was really monotonous and felt like it was just in there to extend the game for a little longer

I believe I left off at Chapter 9 last night and would agree

I think 9 chapters into Uncharted 2 there were levels I knew I would definately want to go back and revisit ..... not so much in this game thus far

if this game is a 10 then Uncharted 2 was an 11 (said with Spinal Tap emphasis)

clearly just a gaming device to take advantage of the throw back feature that wasn't present in the past games

just beat it. meh. the story was interesting, although the "thing" they are looking for is weak. i think the quality of the story makes up for the lack of mechanics/gameplay. i will say that this game getting 10's from anyone is an absolute joke. it's not a 10 worthy game at all. maybe a 9, but that's stretching it. i think people are so enamored by the story, since it is almost like a movie, they look past quite a bit of the shortcomings this game has. i liked U2 much much better than this one.

I haven't finished yet but I would say UC1 was a 9, UC2 a 10, and this looks like an 8 or 8.5.

Uncharted 1 was worse about this since Drake did little melee damage (even with a crushing combo) and wouldn't break away. The only options were the iron fist manoeuvre or only entering melee with the last guy in the room.

In UC2 and UC3 you can break away by using the cover button.

I'm through chap 10 and this is far and away my biggest issue with the game.

Naughty Dog invited players to their headquarters to show them the bad controls because they didn't believe there was a problem with the aiming. They're going to be releasing a patch for it soon.

The aiming on this flat out sucks and makes me a cowering bitch during a gunfight rather than wanting to fight back. During that shootout in the courtyard in Syria I found it easier to let my pals kills most of the enemies than try and fail at killing them myself.

I don't seem to be having the same issues many of you are going on about with the aiming (and I haven't made any adjustments)
the only reason I am finding it harder to aim in this game is because the enemies move/close in on you much faster than in the previous games .... now that may just be because I am playing on hard and usually start the game on normal

RocShemp

The problem with the aiming is that the targets are leading rather than you leading the target and then firing off a shot. I'm sure this was done for the cinematic "fire enough bullets and hope to hit the target" approach you see in countless action films. The problem is that, while fun to watch in a movie, it is a PITA when you're stuck in a huge firefight and just watch as your ammo is spent on air.

Apparently they might also patch in a cinematic viewer as well. I just finished the game today and was surprised to see this feature MIA. Apparently they used live audio for the cinematics this time around and found it too difficult to just load cinematics on the fly. I wonder if this was a Naughty Dog decision or something that Technicolor (who handled sound design/mixing duties this time around) brought to the table.

Anyway, after finishing the game, despite the aiming issues, it's my favourite in the series. I like how they balanced exploration, puzzle solving, and combat far better than in previous outtings. It made the finale feel like more than just an extended shooting gallery, as it was in the first two games.

That said, I agree this game doesn't deserve a 10. None of the Uncharted games deserve a 10, really. For storytelling and acting, absolutely. But for gameplay they still fall in the 8 to 9 range (which is still really damn good).

The Uncharted games are great games but they are way too linear for a 10 in my opinion. There is no shame in them not being a 10 as they still are awesome to play.

I have to agree with that. And the linearity becomes painfully obvious in areas like the sand dunes. I wanted to traverse around the area but instead found the game forcing me in a straight line.
