Borders acquire B&N? that seems weird since Borders was shutting down stores left and right over the past few years.

Does that mean we get to keep the rewards membership and coupon things from Borders and get rid of the overpriced Barnes and Noble paid membership?

This buy out or "merger" was even talked about when I used to work for Borders (almost 2 years ago).
Hope B&N likes all the weirdos that treat Borders like their own home/bathroom stinking up their stores.

Seems like that should be the other way around... seems like Borders has had one foot in the grave for the past couple of years. Been getting that Circuit City vibe off of them...

Fwiw, Borders free rewards membership doesn't really add up to much, and they recently introduced a higher discount paid membership rewards program.

Borders was good for DVDs until they raised the prices and cut the selection.

Re: Possible Borders + Barnes & Noble Merger Under Discussion
I shop at Borders maybe once a year, c. Black Friday--when you can actually get a good deal on things. This time picked up Dr. Who S5 there for a bit over $40 (didn't want to take a chance on DD). And Psych S4 for $2 more than Target. (A bird in the hand, as it was unknown that Target would have it for $13.) B&N I rarely buy at anymore, since I stopped impulse-purchasing magazines. So, any merger doesn't much bother me. If it would make a stronger entity in the face of Amazon and e-books and what not, that would be OK.

Borders here announced they would close Jan 7.
Barnes and Noble is one block away, a week later, they announced they would close Dec. 31.

i'm seeing so much Kindles and iPads around me i think management has seen the future and is going to merge, close a lot of stores and leave a few open that they think are profitable
