I loved how Future Ted couldn't remember when things were taking place. What a great way to reveal Lily's pregnancy.

Are they setting Ted up to be unreliable with time lines/events so Zoey can be the Mother?

I think the big belly in Ted's story gave it away.

I mean, they've been trying to get pregnant all season (and maybe part of last season?) to no success. But tonight we finally see that in the near-future Lilly will be pregnant.

Ted has been an unreliable narrator the whole time. Even in the earlier seasons he got certain events and times mixed up, so they can play with that aspect if they need to.

I don't think Zoey is going to be the mom though; I doubt she was the roommate of Rachel Bilson's character from whatever episode that was.

Ah yes, indeed. I had written her off as the mother, but the clock-ticking at the end made me think they were trying to set that up.

If more (most) episodes were like tonight's, I wouldn't be praying for the mother to be found (and the show ended) so quickly.

That said, they've had quite the decent little run here, lately. They need to make this more the rule than the exception.

I took the clock ticking to be the clock ticking until Zoey turns into the mermaid.

Yeah, same here. He's going to fall for her, but I can't see her being mother.

Barney's comment about when Lily's breast get three times bigger, so will he was great"

Future Ted referred to her as "Zoey" in the narration to his kids. Since he didn't refer to her as "mom", I think that's a good sign she's not the mother.

I thought it was mentioned a while back that Cindy (Rachel Bilson) is the "Mother."

She's definitely not the mother. I believe Ted even said as much. He hinted at her roommate being the mother though.

Was it just me or did Future Ted sound nothing like Bob Saget this week?

Yeah, I thought the same. Although some times he still sounded like Bob. I would said 95% of the time it didn't sound like Bob Saget.

Plus, didn't Ted meet her at the wedding from the season opener?

She becomes a mother (with her partner) not the "mother."

I noticed it as well, but I also noticed Saget in there (after that, but didn't notice if it was him right away because I didn't notice it NOT sounding like him until a bit into the episode. Wish I hadn't cleared the DVR so quickly.) too.

Re: How I Met Your Mother -- "The Mermaid Theory" -- 12/06/10

For the record, I don't think Bob Saget EVER sounds like Ted. But I also noticed Future Ted was different from what Saget normally sounds like. Perhaps it was a cold.

The stuff with Barney and Lilly had me in stitches!

Bob Saget must have had a cold when he recorded this weeks episode -- definitely didn't sound like him.

Yeah it was strange. In the scenes with the kids it sounded like him but during the narration of the episode, not at all. It was almost like the voice was sped up a little so it was a higher pitch.

Aside from that, it was a great episode!
