BTTF 25th anniversary DVD (not Blu-ray)...

...does anyone have it, and if so, is it worth the double dip??

Again, I'm asking about the DVD, not the Blu-Ray.

Thanks a bunch!!

I believe it has the special features of the individual titles that were released recently. Prior to the indivduals, the set was the only way to get all 3 movies.

Guess the answer depends on which editions you currently have. If you have the original set, then this one would probably be worth the upgrade. It boasts a brand new 6-part documentary, running over two hours. If you're a big fan of Back to the Future, that's reason enough to buy.

I'm a casual fan. I picked up the individual releases last year. Those are good enough for me. My mother loves the series, and all she's had is the original set in full screen. Which doesn't look too great on our 46-inch LCD. I got her the new set for Christmas.

I think the video suffers the same waxy sheen as that of the Blu-ray, but reviewers don't seem disturbed by it. Aside from that, this is probably the best way to own the trilogy. If I hadn't bought the previous releases, I would have gotten this for myself, too.

Hope that helps.

KillerCannibal, You should go to the HD forum. Why are you even posting on the standard DVD forum, if its only going to be an ignorant comment?

I should probably specify that I have the most recent individual releases. Is the new DVD set better than those?

For the documentary, yes. The individual release of the first film had a 45 minute doc called Looking Back to the Future, which was a shortened version of a much longer piece. The new set offers Tales from the Future, by frequent Spielberg collaborator Laurent Bouzereau. By any account I've seen, it blows away any previous attempt to chronicle the history of the BTTF films. It sounds incredible.

So, whether or not you dip again depends on how much of a fan you are. I certainly enjoy the movies, and I'm glad to have those attractive re-releases with the slipcovers, but I'm not a big enough fan to spend another $35.
