Concerning Yamaha receiver

I heard that the 795a has binding posts for all channels instead of spring clips..is this correct?

What are the changes or differences?

Thanx.

Hum, I think it got a new remote, two S-Video outs (one now on DVD), maybe some other minor changes.

Sonic,

The difference btw 795 and 795a is minimal. The a-model is the later model. The lower series a-model have more differences. For example, both 495a and 595a models have added DTS while the earlier non a models had no DTS.

I just bought the 795a at an unbelievable price--$399 at Sound Advice in Orlando. The same unit was also sold for $449 at Sound Track in Denver just a few weeks back. This model is being cleared for a new model coming out soon this fall. I was told the new model will have a new Dolby processor. The 595a has already been replaced with the 596. I looked at the 596 spec and it still has the same YSS-918 processor (same as in 795a) so I'm not real sure if the new 795a replacement will have a new chip or not.

Anyway, shop around, there should be some good prices on the 795a.

I have not set my unit up yet as I'm still shopping for speakers so I won't be able to comment on the model and its sound. This will be my third Yamaha receiver and I can say the the first 2 Yamaha dobly prologic receivers sounded great!

I'm considering the Energy Take 5 and the Mirage AVS-500 as my speakers. Anyone one have comments? best prices?

Bob

Just a side note. I believe that Sound And Vision magazine had reviewed both and rated the 795a much higher primarily because it has a lower MSRP even though it is a newer model (although as has been mentioned it to is now being replaced).

I purchased the 595a about 3 months ago just as it was being discontinued and being replaced by the 596. The 596 goes for 499 in retail stores. I got the 595a as an open box unit for $330. Getting the 795a for 399 was an even better deal, although it was still selling for around $700-800 dollars when I bought my 595a. I am happy with my 595a, although I have Cambridge Soundworks speakers and no sub woofer right now. My next purchase will be a better speaker setup, possibly the Energy Take 5 series.

The coressponding RX-V and HTR models are essentially the same. The only difference is where they can be sold in terms of local retail and online.
