I now have a Sony TV and a Sony VCR, so I hooked the S-link output of the TV to the input of the VCR.
I have no idea what this setup allows me to do.
1) Will this work, or do I need a Sony receiver with S-link control?
2) What can I do with S-link?
Thanks

As far as I can remember.....JVC has the same type of link which allows you to connect items together!! I believe this allows you to power up your whole system at once instead of having to turn on each individual unit!!! Anyone else know???

I've never used it but the JVC setup is supposed to do a little more. It's most impressive when you have the whole setup: Reciever, TV, VCR, etc. So you pop in a movie and it turns on the reciever & TV and selects the correct input in the TV. Well you get the idea.

cinemaphile- in a tv/vcr setup I dunno what s-link will let you do. At the least maybe it will power the VCR on when you turn on your tv or vice/versa.
I use s-link between my megachanger and 5-disc changer. The mega-changer powers on and detects when the 5-disc is turned on. Also, it displays the info from the 5-disc changer on it's display and will control it remotely.
If you search around a bit you'll find info on the net for a S-link controller box for your PC. Hook it up to a s-link equipped mega changer and you can have your pc automatically program and control your changer.
S-link seems to be a bit more feature-rich than JVCs "compulink" feature and the fact that there's an adapter box for the PC is compelling.

Thanks for all the responses.
So far, everything I tried did not work.
(I haven't tried to connect the "Out" of the VCR to the "In" of the TV yet.)
But I hardly ever use my VCR anyway...
